Default Metal valve stems part 2.

So let me try this a different way. Has anybody used metal valve stems on their factory GT3 wheels? I talked to one of by parts vendors and was told that the "993" part number for metal valves in the other thread I started on this topic are for the 993/996TT wheels designed for those valves.

Since I see so many of you at the track and run factory wheels, I am curious is you either:
1. Use rubber valve stems only
2. Use rubber valve stems with the valve support (that small piece PCNA sells that attaches to the rim and has a support "arm" the holds the valve upright.
...or....
3. Use metal valve stems on the factory GT3 wheels. If so, where did you get them or are you using the 993 p/n?

Just want to make sure I am proactive in my safety.

Thanks!

Dell - You can not use the metal valve stem from the 993. That was a special design as it had to go through the cavity of the hollow spoke (a couple of inches). For my GT3 track customers I would change out the valve stems to metal. I had a supplier that had nice ones that fit the Porsches well (not too long). You should also use the hi temp cores for the track...

Thanks Bob for the input. I figured that was the case with the 993 valve. I have had input from another Rennlister that says he used "Alligator" stems and also had Austin with TRG tell me they use the Alligator stems as well. I guess this is the way to go. I'll post my results when done if I end up with the proper stem.

Default Metal Tire Stem

Attached is a picture of the one I use. When I got new MPSC tires the p-car shop put on the these stems. No issues so far for track use.

Are we talking real metal valves or just sleeves? Rodneys pic appears to be a sleeve which is pure bling.

Ciao,

J.

the ones in the pic look exactly to what we offer at my work in discount tire. the thing is the ones at our work the metal part slids off and then theres rubber underneath. not sure about the ones in the pic but they look like if you give them a strong tug the metal would just slids off. Just though i would inform you guys. also at least where i work we offer the valve stems free of charge you just have to ask or if im working on the car i always try to hook the porsches up .

Could somebody please explain which safety issue is involved in the "normal" valves that I imagine to be using in my GT3 wheels ?

failure of the valve from heat, tears/cut, pressure loss, etc.

I got my metal stem done when I got new tires from an independent Dan Jacobs in Southbury, CT. I prep's a lot of cars for DE's and club races.
