Default 2" vs. 3" lap belt harnesses.....opinions?

So I am deciding between the Profi and Hybrid line of harnesses that Schroth makes. The difference I see is the 2" lap belts on the hybrid and 3" on the Profi. The 2" are for added safety and comfort.

Anybody try both and have and comments or opinions or suggestions, etc., to help me with this decision???

Thanks again!

Cheers,

2" lap belts are a little more comfortable; I have 3" all round with my harnesses, but 2" is adequate for safety purposes, I believe.

2" shoulder belts allow for easier fitting with a HANS, if you use one.

From what I read on the schroth website they state the 2" belt is safer than the 3" belt.

Dell,
This has been discussed in the Racing/DE forum. Lots of good info/experts in there. Also, Joe Marko at HMSMotorsports in Peabody MA is the Schroth importer for NA and is an expert on harnesses.

2" lap belts are safer AND legal (I think PCA was the last to adopt this).
They were standard issue on Supercup cars from the factory as well.

HANS (H&D) now says there is no reason to purchase a 2"-3" HANS specific shoulder harness, 3" shoulder belts are fine....and also allow you to run without a HANS (can't run 2" shoulder belts without having a HANS device on)

FWIW, I have the Schroth Hybrid II Titanium (the Titanium versions are made to order in Germany, so it took 6 weeks)......no need to get Titanium, engineers just seem to like nerdy things.
The hybrid II is AMAZINGLY comfortable, especially in the lap belt area....you won't even know they are on. Best harness I've ever owned. I've owned a bunch.

NO 5 points, buy a 6 or 7 point if you're buying new harnesses.

I was thinking the Hybrid set in 6-pt would be the winner. I am thinking BLACK since they don't come in yellow. Bummer!

I have 3" all around simpson belts. They are very confortable but I agree 2" lap belt would be better.

I am sure someone makes them in yellow, I'll get back to you...

Joe Marko at HMSMotorsports is an expert on this matter, cal him up.

i have both 3" and 2" and hybrid.
the 3" SHOULDER belt and the 3"to 2" hybrid SHOULD belts both work with HANS. but i like the hybrid more as it sits on the HANS yolk better. however, the 3 to 2" SHOULDER belt MUST be used with HANS. you are not supposed to use it without HANS. the 3" one can be used with or without HANS.

i also have both 3 and 2" lap belts. the 2" is more comfy. i am 33" wasit 5'9". 180lbs for ref. the 2" is much eaiser to adjust.

if you do use HANS, make sure the relative ht b/n your should and the bar that you wrap the belt to is what HANS has specified (see their web site.) i see a lot of wrong installations.

Dell,
How about a Porsche Tequipment rollbar, on sale at Suncoast Porsche, to go along with those harnesses:

3" is required in certain race series.

I use 3" lap, and hybrid (3" -2") shoulder harness.

3" shoulder 2" lap is more than enough for trackday use. 3" x 2 is money out the door!

Ciao,

J.

Don't some clubs like the SCCA require 3" belts?

2" lap belts are more common in Europe (and is coming more and more here too) & as already said, according to Sparco, more safe.

SCCA allows 2" laps if they are FIA approved (http://www.schrothracing.com/docs/SC...ge2InchLap.pdf) which the Schroth are. I have the hybrid with the 2" lap and love them. Unfortunatly, I am looking into doing some vintage racing locally, and as of 06, they still required 3" laps. Hopefully they will follow SCCA and allow 2" for 07.

Thanks for all the input once again everybody!

I think I am going to go with the hybrid set using the 2" lap belts. They are "safer" and more "comfortable. The price delta is minor so I am going with comfy

Damn I wish they had yellow belts though
