Default GT3, GT3 Cup, GT3 RS, GT3 RSR???

I'm fairly new to Porsche having bought a 996 C2 in May '04, then a 993 TT in July '04, and have been a GT3 owner since Dec '04. (There's a story there, but that's not for here.) What I'm saying is, frankly, not all that familiar with the fine points of Porsche.

Where can I find a listing of the differences between the different models of GT3 that I see? That is, what are the differences between a GT3, a GT3 Cup, a GT3 RS, and a GT3 RSR??? Are there any other GT3 models?

Thanks

Thanks. I live a bit of in the boondocks. Mail usually takes a few extra days to get to me, so should be seeing it soon.

Not sure if you've found an answer to your question - hope this helps:

GT3 - introduced in 1999 Mk.1 996 with revised engine block (derived from GT1, GT2, 996TT - ultimate origin from 964 Turbo), revised suspension, Aerokit (spoilers front and rear, sill trims) different wheels (Mk.1's look like sport designs but are unique size), Turbo brakes. Mk.2 introduced in 2003 following facelift of entire 996 range in '02 - slightly more engine power, better mid-range, Turbo 6 pot front calipers. Both versions came in Comfort and Clubsport versions (clubsport has IVM full cage, fire extinguisher, nomex seats and harnesses as standard).

GT3 Cup - introduced 2000 - homologated series race car for Carrera Cup and Supercup series - welded roll cage, revised for Mk.2, in 2002, again in 2003, 2004 - no changes for final year of production (very small numbers) in 2005. 997 Cup introduced only for Supercup in '05 - Carrera Cup's from 2006. Centre lock wheels, airjack built in, later cars run on Motec.

GT3 R - introduced 2001 as Le Mans series contender - run in FIA-GT etc, wider bodywork front and rear, 420bhp normally aspirated GT version of the homologated Cup. Manual gearbox as standard (most retrofitted with sequential now).

GT3 RS Road Car - limited production version of Mk.2 GT3 (though not as limited as Porsche originally promissed ). Similar to GT3 Clubsport however carbon fibre rear wing and mirrors.

GT3 RSR - introduced 2004 as successor to GT3 RS race car - sequential box standard for the first time - engine a handbuilt masterpiece!

Worth mentioning the 997 GT3 cup - broke with the 996 GT3 Cup tradition and for the first time removed ABS (dual brake circuit bias system on the dash) and sequential gearbox only - very different car to 996 version.

Can't think of any more at the moment

Philip

The November 2006 Panorama article is good but would be much much better with a lot more technical data.
