Default Alcantara steering wheel

What do y'all think of the alcantara steering wheel? To me, alcantara will wear out and get "bald" in spots with age. I don't mind the alcantara in the seats too much, and I'll probably change the seats to the true ROW GT3 seats anyway, but I'm thinking of getting the NC option of thicker plain black leather steering wheel.

Synthetic, hmmm. Maybe another reason to get the thicker vanilla real leather wrap. Too bad, I do agree it's HOT otherwise. And unique.

I don't care for the thicker wheel. Check it out before you order one.

The available steering wheels, all no cost options, are:

Three spoke (thicker) GT3 steering wheel covered in Alcantara.
Three spoke sports steering wheel covered in smooth finish leather.
Three spoke sports steering wheel covered in thickly padded, smooth finish leather.

I was thinking of the third one. The Alcantara is thinly padded, so the GT3 wheel itself must be thicker. I, too, am curious. What don't you like about the thicker wheel?

Thicker is better.

In this case size does matter

I drove cars with both (thicker was a pricey option on our cars) when buying my car. One salesman pointed out that you need hands like a linebacker as I test drove a GT3 with the thicker steering wheel...and it was one of the few times the guy was absolutely right. I liked the steering wheel on my E46 M3 best, with the standard GT3 wheel being a little thinner (but still ok) and the thicker wheel was too meaty for me (didn't feel natural).

Some people love the thicker wheel. I hated it. That's why I'd suggest trying it out if you can before ordering one.

I'm getting the smooth leather, thicker padded steering wheel for mine.

is the standard alcantara more "thicker" than the others ? I cant tell from the photos but alcantara is the way to go for the GT3 lightweight racing car (like the CSL steering wheel)...

I have about 10k miles on my alcantara steering wheel and love it. it has gotten rougher w/ use and isn't as pretty as it once was but i really like in on the track.

ALcantara sticks to your racing gloves, making it easier to hold onto the wheel when you remove one hand for shiftng. I am not a pro driver in top physical condition. After 3 30-40 minute track sessions , my hands and arms start to fatigue in later sessions. I am looking forward to that alcantara wheel..
