Here in california, track support including towing is around $500 per day or $1k per weekend. I still cannot explain, what are the main cost difference between running a 996 and 997 Cup.
Do you have to drop the engine for maintenance after every weekend?
Thanks

The main differences are that most parts on the 997 cost more and are stressed more.
People ask why the RSR costs more to run than a 996 Cup too. Sure, if you take one from the dock to the track and run them for 2-3 weekends the cost is the same, but when things start wearing, and they wear fast, the differences arise.

Why they changed the brakes to more expensive versions baffles me.
Seems like the 997 cup gets smashed more than the 996, leading to higher costs
Just wait till your tranny needs a rebuild and you will really feel the differen$e.

No ABS at all. The car is a baby RSR. Solid bits underneaath,no rubber ala the 996 cup, bigger brakes, closer ratios, sequential, higher rpm peak power delivery etc... Very cool cars, also pretty bullett proof. Trans is a wonder, very stout, only real failures have been due to mismatched revs on downshifts repeatedly. ( People not blipping properly prior to downshift)

Humm,
I thought Super Cup or maybe it was JCM or commented that you can change the software and just turn the ABS on...or somthing to that effect. What about a different series, can the car be orderd with ABS, or retrofited easily?

Not to my knowledge, it has a completely different harness on the chassis, DME and Engine Loom. Seems like You could run the 997 GT3 Street front chassis loom with the 996 Cup ABS controller)( You want it over the street ABS due to much faster cycling) perhaps but why bother. Then You would not be legal for PCA GTC4, Grand AM or even SCCA whenever they classify it. The best car for multi series is still the 6. I just suffer from always wanting the new race bits hence my desire for the 7. I have had 4 996 Cups and they were far and away the most reliable and cheapest Porsche racers to run I have ever had. Great cars, easy to work on and setup and bulletproof. Very cheap now also compared to other options out there in P Car racing.

Hey Cos, many of the 997 Cup owners are the same ones with the 996's. In addition to the private owners, there are several teams who own and operate both. I'd say sometime next summer we'll see more 996 Cup's changing hands.
