Mike K,

Sell the blob on ebay.

That OEM cat is toast. How many miles are on your odo? All track miles?

Many more of us are probably unknowingly dealing with this problem...

If you were in the US, they would have to cover the repairs no matter where you drove the car per EPA regs.

Mine were done in less than 9 months. I suspect that many are running around with blown cats and don't know it. Time for you guys to crawl under the car and give them a whack with a hammer.
18k miles
What is the typical reserve price for a metal blob?

Even cup cars have cats, so "excessive track use" is nonesense. Porsche must warrant the emission system for a minimum of 8 years, including the cats. If you will insist, they will flinch. I had a similar issue on a 996 and once the issue was elevated withing Porsche it was resolved to my full satisfaction.
Have you used racing fuel (leaded)? This would kill the cats in no time.

my cat died due to me loving to overfill the oil (that's waht dealer said, though my gauge doesn't show overfill). they warrantied it. this is in USA though, and yes, they do know the car lives on track.

but i have never seen a cat like yours!

My car is getting the mufflers replaced under warranty next Monday. I'm running FabSpeed Cat bypass pipes and stock mufflers.

It's very important to have a close relationship with your dealer. My car has 27k miles, and one of the mufflers has loose baffles (crappy quality stock mufflers). The power delivery is not steady due to the baffles blocking the exhaust flow. I've driven so many cars for so many more miles without muffler problems.

Mike K,

The empty cats will give you more power compared to the obstructed cats, but the FabSpeed Cat bypass pipes (I've them) will give you even more. They're affordable and well built.

Gutted cats will create uneven exhaust flow. The turbulence might actually create a bit of undesired back pressure, and you could lose power not knowing it. You could also try to install a straight pipe inside the gutted cat, and that will be effective, but all the hassle is unnecessary when you can get cat bypass pipes.

Mike,
if the metal blob was loose inside the cats, could you hear it bouncing or rattling around while driving?

Does anyone have cat bypass on their GT3? If so, CEL problems?

How loud is it combined with muffler bypass?

FabSpeed Cat bypass here for over a year. No CEL. Better sound than stock, louder, but not that much louder than stock, I don't wake up my neighbors on Sunday morning anymore.

Combining muffler and cat bypass pipes won't be that much different than running straight pipes from the headers. It's as loud as a GT3 RSR.

Default Stock cat

Jeez, if the stock cats are going be problematic I wonder what the best exhaust set up is for combined improved sound(and power if possible) and weight reduction? I'm running Fabspeed muffler bypass now with stock cats but don't want them balling up on me. The sport cats w/ muffler bypass would be too loud. I really like the aggressive sound and significant weight reduction of my current setup. Seems like the only other option with similar benefit would be sport cat pipes with Fabspeed Maxflow exhuast or one of the ti mufflers from the new forum vendor. Any other recommendations out there?

That leaded racing fuel will do it every time.

Just to clear up some of the points that have been mentioned.
I have never had to add oil to the car, ever.
Never ever used race fuel.
You cannot hear the blob moving around when the car is running. I believe the only way to check ( muffler as well) is to tap on them and see if you can hear loose stuff moving inside.
I have a very good relationship with the sales & service manager at the dealership.
The mechanics are all a bunch of great guys and cannot understand why these items are not being warrantied.
I was also infomed that there will not be any warranty on suspension parts either.
