Default Time to upgrade LSD Clutch Packs?

They're telling me the pinion input shaft bearing is bad (5k mi.) and they will be replacing (warantee). Wondering if it might be a good time to upgrade the LSD clutch pacs to the steel type? (80% street driving) The OE (brass) ones in now seem OK but might it make sense to make the change now, free labor. Any idea as to parts cost and suggested type/P/N's. Your comments would be appreciated. Tnx

OK, someone has to explain this to me. Why would you want steel pads? Obviously they woudl last longer than brass, but like a syncro this is a friction surface so doesn't it need to be brass to work properly? Are the steel ones brass bonded to a steel backing like the "steel" syncros?

How about the Cup car ring & pinion?

Going from 3.44:1 to 4.00:1 combined with a LWF would totally transform the car.

I just did the upgrade on the LSD in my car stright out from a RSR trani 60/40 and boy o boy the car is insane know turn and hamer the gas and the locking is amaizing. Cornering is a new expirience. If you can't find the Cup parts (about 800) try a Gard LSD fuly adjustable

Holger B,
Any idea as to the cost of a replacement R&P might be? The only thing I know for sure I'll be doing is the crankcase relief valve upgrade. I had the valve on on hand just in case I had an opportunity like this come up.

Could anyone offer a cost comparison of, LWFW, R&P and gear changes ( 3rd 4th and 5th). Sounds like replaceing 3rd gear might be a good thing from a reliability view as well.

No idea what the cost would be, but it's gotta be less than regearing the tranny and in your situation you may just have to spring for the parts.

Food for thought...

Learned that there are rebuild kits available for the LSD pacs, wondering if one might rebuild the brass ones with the steel rebuild kits? The cost would be much less than a complete replacement.
