Do GT3s overheat?
OK, when I'm stuck in a jam, with the air-conditioning on, the car's temperature starts to climb pretty quickly. From about a usual steady 85-90 degrees to past the midway mark between 80 and 120, ie. 100. Is this normal? What's the max temperature that the car can "idle" at?
Edit; the ambient temperature, according to the car's thermometer is 37 degrees, and relative humidity is hovering around the 80% mark. Oh, and all temperatures are in degrees celcius.

The day I picked mine up from the dealer (Mk 2), I got stuck in stop & go traffic for almost an hour (outside temp of 108!) with the a/c on and the temp gauge needle barely moved from normal. My old '99 C2 would easily have been close to the red.

On the track or in traffic when it is 95 degrees outside my mk2 does not overheat. This may sound simple, but have you checked your radiators? Are they obstructed?

Should never over heat.
I even brought mine to the shop b/c I was thinking my thermostat was not working properly b/c the needle is always to the left of centre. The old 996 did though.

210F is common around town in warmer climates. (Above 75F) Should drop to below 200F once cruise speed gets to 60 MPH. Chances are, your coolant temp is reaching 220F+ degrees. Gauge is not an accurate read. This is with, or without 3rd radiator in slow driving. Simple mod can keep your coolant at or below 195F in ALL conditions.

Radiators are clear, and the Mk1's temp doesn't deviate a milimeter when in motion, whether on the road of track, the problem starts when it's sitting still. However, Holgar B and RR did mention that their old (pre-facelift?) 996s did overheat, and my GT3 is an '01 Mk1, so is that a problem with all pre-facelift 996s?

i have driven at 108-110 ambient temp for 45 min straight. not a prob. for the car. i was about to melt, however.

Not sure about the Mk. 1's, but on the Mk. 2's there is only one radiator cooling fan (whereas the regular 996 has two radiator fans). If your Mk. 1 only has one fan, your dealer can install the other one if you're worried about overheating. However, as stated in the manual, the heat only becomes dangerous if the temp needle is in the red--
