I wonder if the US car will come with the roll cage pads welded in ready to bolt in a cage?

This feature with availability of a roll cage kit would be a nice way to get around the law.

The U.S version of the regular 997 GT3 won't be a 1395kg car. When your cars arrive do yourself a favor and take it to a scale (I did that with my 996 GT3).

The RS is lighter by 44 lbs, but it includes an even stiffer rollcage compared to the 996 GT3 RS that will add another 60 lbs to a regular 997 GT3. It also includes the heavy 10 lbs fire extingusher. So the RS is over 100 lbs lighter than the 997 GT3.

The car will be using different wheel carriers as mentioned, probably hollow pieces ($$$) and the 2-piece rear control arms (as the 996 GT3 RS).

If I can run 335 tires on my narrow body 996 GT3, the 345 MPSC 18" tire on 13" lightweight wheels on the 997 GT3 RS will be an easy fit.

They mention a closer ratio transmission compared to the 997 GT3, which I mentioned was not as short geared as I expected.

To upgrade a plain jane 997 GT3 to RS specs will take a lot of money. LWFW plus re-geared tranny is $8k (and good bye warranty). RS suspension another $7k. The CGT seats another $6k. At this point the price difference of $20k is justified, and you're not even close to RS specs (wider body, wing, CF body parts, different ECU, etc), and it won't be an original RS anyway.

At $144k (including PCCB and the rumored Manthey 440 powerkit) the GT3RS will be a bargain.

You are so right. I really hope PDK is right around the corner and they recorded this off a test model.

The price of the German GT3 RS is 129,959 Euro and their 997 GT3 is 108, 083 Euro applying the ratio of these to the $106,000 projected USA GT3 price => USA GT3 RS price is $127,454, not bad if it includes the carbon buckets and PCCB.

White, white, white... wher is my white exterior color option?

So, the bolt in cage is standard on the RoW 997 GT3 RS and an option on the 997 GT3 (Club Sport Package)?

I know you love the RS. And so do I. But I don't follow your logic on weight. The RS weight is excluding Aircon - add 44 pounds. So the GT3 and the GTR RS actually weigh the same on a like-for-like basis. And if you spec the base GT3 with CF buckets then it's actually 44 pounds lighter than the RS.

I am just drooling over the carbon fiber wing - it looks like a direct bolt-on to replace the flying taco wing from the regular 997 GT3.

The point is that even with the extras (wide body, roll cage, fire extinguisher, etc.) the GT3 RS is still lighter than a GT3... a good start for what you're getting.

FYI, GT3 weight is also without A/C.

The weight factory quotes is without any options (no A/C, no sunroof, no full leather etc...), full tank of fuel, oil & coolant and 7 Liters of winshield fluid (or if smaller container, whatever fits).

So the weights (of GT3 & GT3 RS) in fact are comparable.

You can of course spec. bucket seats (in Europe) and make GT3 same weight as GT3 RS but as NJ-GT already pointed out, once you add RS stuff (roll bar, extinguisher etc.) the weight goes up.

I thought that both the 997 GT3 and 997 GT3 RS came with A/C as standard.

Hmm... I think you're right. I'm still in "old skool" when A/C used to be an option...

Haven't asked but I'm guessing nowadays you can't even delete A/C in GT3.

AC was a no cost opotion on the 996GT3 Mk2 as was the radio. A few guys here bought the car with out radio and AC - saved 20 kilos. I'd rather have the AC and traffic reports on the way back from the track. AC also keeps my windshield clear on rainy track days.
