I'll back Larry up on this one. I spoke directly with PMNA after buying my used '02 Cup car. I was told that even if leakdown was fine, and the motor pulled strongly, they knew that I would have bearing wear, and possibly rod problems. 40 hours was the stated interval. PMNA issues yearly bulletins to Cup owners with maintenance notices/requirements/suggestions, and these also include the 40 hour note. You won't see a copy (at least, not from me) since I like the service I get from PMNA and I'd like to continue getting it, and they are a little shy about having info floating around in an uncontrolled manner.

Sure enough, when they tore my motor down the first time, there was some cracking in the web supporting one of the crank bearings, and the rear bearing showed significant wear. We relaced the rods at the same time. This was on a motor that was very strong, passed leakdown with no issues, and used no oil. I raced the car for another year, this time we did pistons and cylinders, the rest was refreshed/replaced. We stress the bejeesus out of these things, that's all there is to it. The one mitigating factor for DE GT3s is that the rebuild interval is based more on endurance racing - 20 minute sprints or DE sessions are a little easier on the motor. I'll run my street GT3 in DEs until it won't, then I'll report back. Meantime, the Cup car gets its rebuild every 40-50 hours.

I think once we will see some GT3 street car engine failures from track use, people will start to realize they aren't 500 hour motors.

Although given this assumption you would assume that the Mk1 GT3s in europe would be dropping like flies, however the opposite seems to be the case - and some of these cars are now 6 years old with 50k miles and many many track hours behind them,

Yeah, but track hours are different than racing hours. I know that most guys who track their GT3s don't usually run them up to the redline on every shift, and it is the constant high revs that is the killer. You are always around the redline when you are racing, and this diversion from the main thread did start on my comment about a "raced" street GT3 possibly having a tired motor.

That I accept, but its an important differentiation to make and it looks like most posters on this thread aren't making the difference between a car thats seen a number of amateur trackdays and one which has been raced. Conversations like this are the kind which lead to plummeting residuals.

I'm not getting at you Larry, more some of the subsequent posts which seem to be generalising about street GT3s.

Rafael should make it to the DYNO this wednesdy before the Likme Rock club race. Hopefully he wont bail out again.

Derek.......go and get him at Watkins Glen.............awesome track and lots of elevation changes. Come to Advanced DE "open track" 5/17-5/18/05 Hudson Champlain & Hudson Valley region of PCA. David Murry will be there offerring Pro instruction and he could get your car into the 2.00 or so range. If you do come and get your car into the 2.02 range.............." YOU HAD BETTER BRING BODY GUARDS, CASH, LAWYERS AND MERCENARIES..............AS RAFAEL jsut hates to loose!!!!!!!!

Just for that eat my dust at Watkins Glen I will be in C stock. An RS America is most likely the 5th fastest car in C in terms of power and weight. If I remebre correctly the fastest cars would be>>

1) GT3RS any European 1999 to 2003 car
2) 993TT S
3) C2 Turbo 3.6liter
4) 911 SCRS (could be #1 if in C)
5) 997 S (if 997 is in C I dont know BUT it belts out 45HP more than nay 993 CUP car all day long)
6) 993RS 3.8L
8) any 930 S or C2 turbo prepared whatever
7) RS America

you sold short 2 times ouchhh!

Well then, I guess that you'll just get your *** handed to you by the least capable car in the class.
