I've done around 13 alignments the last two years (since I got the car). Once a month on the driving season is a good average for me.
Negative camber is not as bad on tires as toe-in or toe-out is. A lot of toe-in (35' for instance) will wear the tires even, but fast.

question..about to pull a trigger on a gt3 996 and have been tracking a 997s for 5 yrs with gt3 control arms about -2 camber FR, -1.8 camber Rear... i drive instructor advanced level..should i start with porsche suggested alignment mentioned to learn the car and start with the more aggressive alignment specs...? would the porsche spec alignment be more forgiving on the track? thanks can i get -2.5 camber up front without shims...

Mikk - for an advanced driver you want to use a lot more negative camber front and rear. Yes you can get neg 2.5 in front without shims but if you just rotate the struts to do it you end up with too little caster and the tires will rub on the fender liner.
Easy was to get it right is rotate struts, for about neg 2 then use shims in the lower A arm to get neg 2.5 in front. Caster will be about 8 degrees which is what you want.
"Track alignment" as per the manual will wear out the shoulders of your tires very quickly. The specs posted near the top of the thread are close to ideal. Some people go Neg 2.7 in front.
