Default Throttle position sensor ??

My GT3 has a problem with maintaining RPMs. Cold start, idles at 1050 RPM until warm enough to drop down to 800 RPM. If you increase the RPMs to 1600 and try to hold the pedal steady the RPMS will drop to 800 even if you hold the gas pedal steady. Due to very recent heart surgery I'm not allowed to drive the car for another 14 days. I will take the car in when I can, but for now I'm really curious WTF is happening.
Any similar problems??

TIA

sounds like you need someone to drive your car for you a couple of day a week :-) I am on my way.

No idea regarding the rpm issue. Have a quick and relaxing recovery. How are your legs doing?

Hey Roberga
Feeling a little stronger every day. Per Dr can't drive until 4-2-06. I'm going slowly crazy sitting around my den and computer.

My car does that as well. It won't keep the revs steady until I hit 2,000+ rpm. It feels like a race engine, could that be the reason?

I wish you a safe and calm recovery.

OMG, OK first off. EVERYTHING IS NORMAL!!!!

It is the O2 pump and engine management system working toghther to get the CATs up to Temp.

The RPM will stay up untill the CATs are up to temp and then the RPM will drop to normal range.

You increasing the RPM to 1600 hurts the engine. You are increasing RPM with NO LOAD on a cold engine. The oil needs to circulate up from the pan and into the pumps and into the engine.

NEVER rev and engine with NO LOAD.

I have been reading your other posts and it seems that this car might be too much for you, maybe you should go get a Turbo and give your GT3 to me.

Wow....

It does not matter that it has NO CATs, it still has a program for the CAT's to be there. You could not have removed your pre-cat sensors. If you did your car is not running 100% and you are down on power and up on sound.

Sounds similar to my car also - mine also stalls very easily when cold which I always attributed to the LWFW

Thanks guys for the reassuring replies. I'm going to ride as a passenger today in my 3. It NEEDS to be driven! I'll keep an eye on the idle situation as the car heats up.
Cosmo dude....I'm checking on the prices for a transport truck to get the 3 to your house, LOL.....I'm sick, not crazy!!

cosmos, I will clarify my issue.

My car does it when its warm
My car does it in a storm
My car does it on the brake
My car does it near a lake
My car does it when its hot
My car does it a lot!

It makes no difference if the car is cold, warm or hot. I cannot hold the rpms at 1200...never. it always drops down. until i can get it to about 2K, it will just return to idle.

Maybe this has something to do with the "accel vs. brakes" issue....I read that the car will NOT let you brake and apply throttle for more than a few seconds...maybe it is related?

It is not a big deal for me...the car operates just fine...I was just pointing out that I noticed it too. I consider it "normal". Tim

P.S. I was reading Dr. Suess to my kid last night....sorry.

It's just a function of the throttle by wire. My car does this as far as I know they all do this. I'm assuming you're refering to having the car in neutral and stopped and trying to regulate the rpm's with the gas pedal.

That is what "I" am talking about. I dunno if that is what Larry is talking about though...

Exactly what I was talking about. Thanks for the answers. With my wife driving we took the car on a little 30 mile trip. Ran perfect. My wife really surprised me on how well she drove the 3. Now I think I have created a monster. I'm really looking forward to the Dr saying I can drive it again.
Drive safe guys, and God bless!!

Larry
