Seems prices have firmed up on these. I see still now a good example of the 996RS still commanding over 60K pounds. One recently sold in Australia for $180KAUD with 20,000km's on the clock. Interesting to see the production numbers thrown around. I have to agree with Sam , total production 686. Only 140 right hand drives were made out of this batch. ' Officially ' 113 went to UK , 17 to Australia & 4 into NZ. The rest would be made up for orders in HK & Sing perhaps. I know japan only runs left hook cars & have seen a few there in LHD. In my mind for a 'modern' car & the way Porsche produce cars like coke cans these days they are pretty rare & the more they get abused & crashed ( there are many ) they good examples will hold residuals well . How many 2.7 RS's did they make ? Food for thought eh ! :-)

Most sources will give 682 or 686 cars produced of the 996 GT3RS.
Edit:
The official number from Porsche AG Historic Archives dated 20th June 2007 (Ref: The Essential Companion - Strather) is 682.
4 cars produced in 2003.
678 Cars produced in 2004.

there were as I understand from the guy who bought 30 of them, 140 RHD cars, of which 110 went to the UK and 30 to South Africa. Roughly what I've got out of him, the single porsche agent in SA is that of those 30 about 15 are still stock, 10 more modified towards cup level and the others rebuilt or used for parts after 'losing form'.
Based on that and what Wikipedia and this http://www.supercars.net/cars/2402.htmlsays, I think the 1200 number is far too high. Also as the US didn't allow them in, that must have cut numbers by 30% at least.
They are about $105k now in SA with 18-20k kms and perfect stock - 2 just sold like that in the last month in Johannesburg, 1 blue, 1 red. I know

I agree on the 140 rhd figure & total prodcution of 682 - have read this in many 'official' publications. interesting to hear the 30 to South Africa . Good to note.
I know Aussie got 15-17 cars. NZ has now 5 in the country , a couple of which were raced extensively , & one built into a dedicated race car.
Unlike the 997 Gen 1's the little 996 RS's never went to North America so perhaps will be sought after as the years roll by ?

I know of 2 here in the US. One in a collection, and one gets driven fairly regularly...especially on the track until the owner bought a new RS...
I'm sure there are more.

Congrats!
I tried to get a mate of mine to purchase one last week, but he decided to purchase a black 997 GT3 CS. Id rather have the 996 RS . . .
Look forward to seeing pics of your car.
