Porsche continued its new-model offensive with a further version of the 911. With a launch in October of 2003, the 911 GT3 RS is an extremely sporty model with the power and purist qualities of a thoroughbred circuit racer, but legally qualified in every way for road use.
The 911 GT3 RS is a homologation model intended to serve as a basis for motor sport activities in accordance with the new international GT rules. Total production is estimated at just over 300. The RS in the model name will cause the hearts of all Porsche enthusiasts and motor racing fans to beat faster. Models such as the Carrera RS 2.7 of 1972 and the 911 SC RS (1984) were also built under the homologation rules, and not only represent proud chapters in Porsche's heritage but often rewrote motor-sport history as well. The new 911 GT3 RS is intended to continue this tradition.
When the RS was developed, the emphasis was on achieving the best possible power-to-weight ratio. A figure of 4.86 kg/kW has resulted - a further improvement of four percent compared with the Club Sport version of the GT3. The new model is 50 kilograms lighter, and tips the scales at 1,360 kilograms with a full load of fuel (90 liters) in the tank.

Porsche Press release--
Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart continues its new-model offensive with a further version of the 911: due to be launched in October, the 911 GT3 RS is an extremely sporty model with the power and purist qualities of a thoroughbred circuit racer, but legally qualified in every way for road use.
The 911 GT3 RS is a homologation model intended to serve as a basis for motor sport activities in accordance with the new international GT rules. Porsche will build at least 200 cars of this type and supply them to customers. The "RS" in the model name will cause the hearts of all Porsche enthusiasts and motor racing fans to beat faster. Models such as the Carrera RS 2.7 of 1972 and the 911 SC RS (1984) were also built under the homologation rules, and not only represent proud chapters in Porsche's heritage but often rewrote motor-sport history as well. When the "RS" was developed, the emphasis was on achieving the best possible power-to-weight ratio. A figure of 4.86 kg/kW has resulted - a further improvement of four percent compared with the Club Sport version of the GT3. The new model is 110 lbs lighter, and tips the scales at 2997 lbs with a full load of fuel (20 gallons) in the tank.
The "RS", like its motor-sport predecessors, is only available with a full roll-over cage installed. All cars have a white paint finish, with the inscriptions only in blue or red, also in the tradition of its famous forbears.

Originally, the 930 was also an homologation basis. The first 500 were made only to homologate the 934 in group 4 category.
This is the same with the 911 RS 2.7.
I will check later but the magazine "Porsche Scene Live" says around 600 GT3 RS were produced.

I thought about 1,200 GT3 RS were built. They sent at least 120 to the UK, they are not rare, there are plenty around. Most track days I see half a dozen, or so. There are probably over 40 in Munich alone. I do not recall how many they said they would build, I always find the nice chap at the museum very helpful in these matters.
The last rare Porsche from Porsche was the 993 GT1, even complicated by the street/race and MkI/Evolution versions, none of the 996s are 'rare', nor is the CGT, which has just exhausted its customer base.

If 214 stayed in Germany, then 40 would be about right for Munich, which has the greatest concentration of Porsches in Germany, nobody even looks up in Maximillianstrasse when a CGT goes by these days.....
