Default I must be nuts - on the list for a 997 GT3

I must be nuts. After all the good and valid reasons that I had for selling my 996 GT3 and buying a race car, I took one look at that white 997 GT3 on Porsche's website, and that was it. I was originally thinking of getting a convertible M3 for the street. My kids were all over me to order one and so I called my salesman/friend at Holberts and asked him how many orders they have taken on a 997 GT3, and he said "yours would be the first" and so I said "sign me up". My wife just looked at me, shook her head and said "you must be nuts".

Thumbs up

The new GT3 is a knockout! However, my SY '04 GT3 will stay in my garage indefinitely. I must admit, I like the front end and the rear spoiler of the 996 version better. If there becomes a U.S. version of the RS, though, I will be very interested!

If I did not have a 2004 GT3 I would be getting one, I think. Can you get it without AC? $106 is not a bad price at all. It is just not worth the price to upgrade this soon. Perhaps an 08.

White 997 GT3 RS with Riviera Blue decals and wheels, or Mexico Blue, or Gulf Orange, or Gulf Blue and Orange (as the special edition Ford GT), Basalt Black with CF mirror/CF wing/CF bumper grill, Artic Silver with Martini Racing decals.

If the GT3 RS is coming, it will be a bargain at $20k over the GT3. PCCB and CGT seats standard.

The RS Porsches keep their value better over the other Porsches.

Larry--

I love this, it helps me realize I'm not the only totally insane person on the board.

I myself am now a beacon of rationality and restraint. I sold the GT3 RS on Saturday, bought a Cayman S stripper today for another RS project. The deal was just too good to pass up (see my "Divine Intervention" post on the Cayman S forum for the story).

I won't do a weld-in cage on this one or go into the drivetrain or gearbox, I promise. The carbon fiber will be kept to an absolute minimum. Consumer Reports and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety will bless the project as a model of its kind. Like I said: This is the new, responsible, me you're looking at...

As The Lord said when he spoke to me about the Cayman: "Get the damn car, schmuck... "

I too am #1 on my dealers list.

You are crazy, WELCOME.

Mooty, I am in the same boat. I will kill someone if after I drive my new 997 GT3 home I hear that the RS is only a few months off.

I think we might have some conreate info by the time the 997 GT3 is here.

Larry,

You are not nuts, you needed to sell your GT3 to get a dedicated track car, not a dual purpose car your GT3 had become. Now you have a dedicated track car, so you "need" a dedicated street car. I think the new GT3 is perfect for that and will be much more engaging than the M3 Convert. The only problem with this logic process is soon you will need a different dedicated track car, so you will sell the one you bought and buy a 996 Cup. Then you will be buying the 998 GT3 for the street etc.

This is all perfectly good and normal behavior for everyone on this board and every car person! I went to lunch with 5 other guys on the board and took my wife (which I wasn't too sure about but she wanted to go). At lunch we went around the table and discussed our current cars and what we had owned recently. One guy had owned 22 different cars in the prior 3 years, with his shortest ownership of 3 days of a Z06 (last version). After lunch we were driving home and my wife told me "those guys have a serious problem with buying too many cars, you clearly have more restraint buying only 1 car a year".

So it is just all in who you hang out with. Some people I know just don't get it and never will. But I have never regretted getting something fun and enjoying the experience. You only live once and life is short so enjoy each day and get the GT3!

I am number 3 for a GT3 and number 1 for an RS with my local dealer of choice. Hope the RS comes through!

Larry,

I think you are suffering from separation anxiety! BTW - your "old" GT-3 is resting comfortably, sans its suspension. The Motons, RS uprights, monoballs and floating rotors all the around are soon to be installed. It will be soon transformed into the RS you had always hoped for

BTW - don't listen to Supercup too closely; last time I did, I purchased a Cup Car. However, his sage advice is difficult to ignore!
