Dead-Eye - I'm not so sure that the vid proves anything. My experience with a 430 on the track against a GT3 suggests that all things being equal a 430 will outpace a GT3 and that a GT2 would be a better playmate for the 430.

that's what i heard too bob, especially over on the 6spd forums.
what do you think accounted for the GT3 in this vid? maybe they didn't know how to launch the F430 properly?

A GT3 club sport comes on R compound tires. That could account for the launch and the fact the GT3 brakes less than the 430 for the turns - note the brake lights. Maybe the Gt3 driver is better? Who knows. Interesting to watch though. I have one of each and there is no doubt in my mind which is the faster car on track. For the price the 430 should be. I would not be as confident against a GT2 though ...

GT3 clubsport does not come on R compound tyres at least in the uk. The 430 does come on near R compound Corsa systems IIRC. 911s have great traction though and I guess the 430 launch control didn't do an optimal job.
Also, the GT3 being behind has less air to push out the way though. The final summary said the 430 had the edge on speed though, it was just they preferred the Porsche as a complete package.
The GT3 would still be lapping at the end of the day on track. Not sure thats true of the 430?![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I've not had the pleasure of riding in a 430? I presume the damping is less track optimised than on a GT3?

DanH - My F430 came on Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Oddly enough the same tire as fitted to the 996 GT2. Definitely NOT R compound.
Haven't got enough miles on the 430 to talk about reliability. Build quality is superb though.

Jurys out on what tyres either had I think. That GT3 had the cup rear wing so perhaps its not as standard as claimed.
With regards to robustness, its one thing in a road car, another proven and evolved on the race track in my wallet emptying experience
The enzo is apparently a fine example of shallow engineering. Stories of having to open the fuel filler with an oven glove after hard usage etc....
Looks like a great road car though, and I found Ferrari engine notes intoxicating.

No issues with the fuel cap but you do need protection to open the oil filler on the 430. Ask me how I know (ooooouch!)![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
From what I've seen the F 360 has been reliable and I expect the 430 to be an improvement. Still, when something does break .. get out the vaseline.

Ahh Dead-eye playing the temptress huh. Nope, I intend to leave the car stock except for better brake pads. GT3 is my serious track too, the 430 is just for fun with the advantage of low/no depreciation as long as it remains pristine. Sorry...

I can't talk from experience, but I've read plenty of comparisons between the GT3 and the F360CS, the F430 and the Gallardo. These four cars post similar lap times at various racetracks.
The F360CS is faster than the F430 around the Ferrari's home track (Fioriano). There is a tires advantage on the 360CS using Corsa R-comps, but those tires won't make a huge difference compared to street tires.
Then, there is the 7:56 lap time around the Ring on the F430 which is slower than the 7:49 posted by the stock GT3 on Olaf Manthey's hands.
Based on the specs, the F430 should be faster than the GT3.

in that video it looked like the 430 got on the power quicker comming out of the corners ..
As we all know the GT3 is very quick(12.0 1/4) and anything can happen in a drag race..we are talking about a few tenths difference. Get on the power sooner and that's it. .race over.

disregarding the launch, it looked like a dead even race up until about 160 or so, which is way past where most cars top out at racing at most tracks around the US. Nothing against the F430, but the GT3 kicked butt in that comparison, esp. considering the HP deficit.
I'd like more info on why the Gallardo performed so poorly by comparison.

With the ring times on the stock 996 GT3 RS (7:43) and the stock GT3 (7:49), and considering that most of the serious track GT3 are modified, in real life at a track event I doubt we will have to give a passing signal to a F430.
Ferraris are not running slicks, wider wheels, Moton, lightweigth parts, modified trannys, etc.
By the way, I still prefer the 360CS over the F430. That will change if they make a F430CS.
