I have called around to several folks, I have heard the clutch is a PITA in trafic, kind of ON / OFF...And I have heard its not much different than the current clutch (as far as feel and catch points....and I was told today that the CPU might have to be adjusted....
I've run the LWF & 3.8 RS clutch combo since February. I've found the clutch to be a significant improvement over stock (I live in a fairly hilly city), for AutoX, Track and street driving. The IMO, the improvement for street use is significant over the 'sticky' stock clutch feel I experienced in both my 996 TT and the GT3 with stock clutch. As far as adjusting the CPU, that's simply not true. That was true some time ago from the RSA LWF upgrade, when one DID have to mess with the ECU after changing to the LWF.

Robin: Did you have a Porsche part put in? Barrier said that it is the same clutch and plate as the stock GT3. The throw out bearing is different.

The pressure plate is the same, all the other parts including the disc are different.

the pressure plate is the same. The clutch disc is not. RS Sachs version looks much different than the stock GT3 clutch . I could not tell by looking at my stock clutch wether it was Sachs or not...but if it is...it's definately a different model.

One big giveaway on the clutch disc is that the factory one is not sprung in the hub but is solid. The DMF flywheel takes up the shock on engagement, but with the LWF (solid) you need a sprung hub disc or you will get a lot of chatter when you let out the clutch...

Close to 20 lbs weight reduction on the rear axle. You can't go wrong with this upgrade.

Unfortunately, if the car came with the LWF stock, most of the owners would have filed warranty compliants about drivetrain noises.

Here is an interesting link to a mathmatical analysis of the performance advantage of a LWF in a BMW, principles are the same for GT3.

Light Flywheel Analysis

Download the .pdf links in above link

One thing to keep in mind is that the virtual horsepower calculations are made at 10 pounds per horsepower, a GT3 is more like 8.5 pounds per horsepower with an average driver inside.

Here is data from a prior post of mine, weighed by me:
Legend is DMF= Dual Mass Flywheel, SMF= Single Mass Flywheel

GT3 DMF= 30 pounds (includes integral starter gear)

GT3 SMF= 11.8 pounds
GT3 SMF Separate Starter Gear= 1.3 pounds
Total SMF equivalent to DMF assembly= 13.1 pounds

GT3 DMF Driven Disc (Un-sprung) =2.8 pounds
GT3 SMF Driven Disc (Sprung) = 4.3 pounds

Net saving= 15.4 pounds rotating weight with SMF in GT3

I get it next week. The dealer was putting the tranny back in and discovered the mont bracket was fractured nd had to order the part. That gave me enough time to order the parts Friday with Monday delivery from another shop. It would take 10 days from the dealer. I am putting in the whole kit (flywheel, clutch and upgraded pressure plate). The stock fits but the upgrade has better springs.

Is there anything I need to do before tracking? Can I drive it from the shop to the track? I was told that I might need to put 500 miles of wear on it first or risk "polishing" the clutch and getting some slippage????
I guess Porsche has a good reason to not let the dealers have easy access to performance parts.
