i had a leak in my GT3 (big puddle on the floor of the garage) and then after leaking about a quart (4 bars missing on the gauge), i added a quart, and it stopped leaking?!?!?

some asked, did i over fill? answer - i have never added a quart of oil to my car other than oil changes. the last oil change before the leak was 3 months prior ...

Healed RMS?

Well the car is fixed... hopefully for good this time around. My SA told me the RMS they used is a 993 part. I'll post up the part number once I pick up the car and paperwork this afternoon.

I wonder what the chances are of me getting a new engine should she leak again.

hmm, I'm not sure I would want a new motor with only 4500 on this one...My part number for the first fix of the rms is: 996.102.264.92. Is this a cup car part like you mentioned on another forum ?
Thanks

AFAIK, its the standard 993 RMS. Not sure what exactly happened to using the Cup/RS part they were telling me about... unless those use the 993 part. I forgot to grab my paperwok on my way out , so I will have to post the part number tomorrow.

I may now have reason to ask for this part number. Do you still have it?

Never got the actual part number. Its the standard 993 RMS with the spring to keep the tension on the crank. I know there was a thread floating around that had pictures of the 996 part and the 993 part.

If it's a 911 (or should I just say Porsche) eventually it will leak from somewhere but in 993 (not 100% sure about 964 but I think the same thing applies), RMS problem is basically non existent and we must remember, 964s are now about 15 and 993s about 10 years old.

To create a "cup" RMS, Porsche motorsports takes a regular 996GT3 RMS and scrapes off the Porsche logo and part number.

If you order one from PMNA ($70.39USD) this is what you get

the regular 964/993 seal is only $20USD.

I hear if the cars are not driven at least once weekly, the seal can dry out a bit and start to leak. After replacing the first one, 3 weeks later it leaked. I drove 8 hours round trip to Watkin's no leak after that last fall. Probably started the car every two weeks over the winter. Mine was leaking again this Spring.. a drop or two on the floor. Went to Limerock two weeks ago...just checked underneath the car and voila...NO LEAK. It looks like it can repair itself if you go out and run the car well and or drive it at least once a week. I'm not too concerned about it anymore. When the warranty period is close to ending and it's leaking, I will take car of it then and maybe upgrade the pressure plate ad or replace clutch disk if necessary...

If this is true, that's unbelievable. I believe the term "*** holes" is appropriate.

didn't you say you had the RS crankcase vent...if so then the RS seal would be a better choice

No RS crankcase vent here. I found out about that mod just after the second RMS repair.

FWIW... The second RMS is still dry and I haven't driven it much at all the past several months.
