Also, don't forget that the redline is increased on the cup motors to approx. 8600 rpm--

One thing you'd find: the RSR motor doesn't have the variable intake cam nor the two length intake manifold. The resulting broad torque curve in the street motor is one of the things that make that motor such a joy to drive: great low and midband torque, and awesome power when you wind it up. The RSR motor makes more power (like 50 or so I think) but you need to wind it up to get it. Perfect for the track but not as nice on the street.

The GT3 engine will require a rebuild before 100K miles, if used for both street and track use. Less mileage if heavily tracked. I am repeating this from one of the Excellence magazine editors.

So anyone knows the actual difference between a cup and street GT3 engine. I'm pretty sure the engine map is different. In fact there is a switch in my car to change the map to either qual, race or fuel economy. Any other key difference in addition to the intake and exhaust?

Mooty,

I got a diesel supercab truck instead of an elise. Next step is a trailer. My Gt3 won a people's choice award at ventura over the weekend. Now i am resolute in not giving it up! Elise prices should be in the mid $30's by next year, which i feel is a better price point for just a single purpose track car anyway.

Red, wow, that's great, you are going to track the monster truck... just kidding can't resist.

i won't give up your unique GT3 either.

btw, you are right about elise dropping in $$$, but don't fool yourself. once you track prep it RIGHT, it will be about 45-50k.... we can bet on it. i just went through "track prep" of my m3. man, do i feel poor now.

The engine of a Porsche race car spends most of its time revving between 6500-8500 rpm, on slick tire load and full throttle. Just 2-3 50km sprint races the engine wear already surpassed road GT3's engine entire life usage.
Engine overhaul's primary goal is to replace parts that will break, secondary is to bring the engine back to its full power output.
You do not want to have a valve, pin, conrod, piston failure. That costs a race weekend and the huge cost of a new engine.

So, have any of the high mile GT3 had their engines rebuilt? I figure there are at least a few 50-60k mile cars that have seen lots of track miles.

A friend running his 2004 in PCA J Stock rebuilt his motor last winter. Word is that it turned out to be unnecessary. His car started as a street car, then a serious DE car on R6s and then a DE/race car with a full cage.
