Default OEM short Shifter

Not very happy with the shifting on my GT3, compared to my 997 it's feels really weak and sloppy. I've asked the dealer to install a OEM short shifter on the car. Does anyone have any perference, is the OEM better than the B&M, Ruf or EVOMS. What else can I do? I thought about trying to fit the 997 SSK kit, would that even be possible? Can I combine the OEM part with any other bits?

thanks!

I drove iamderek's GT3 w/ B&M and I thought it sucks major ***. VERY notchy and greatly increased effort. He ended up ditching it. I THINK he installed the factory one as well....if i recall, he ditched that too. May want to PM him and ask his input...

I am just sticking with the stock one for now! But I am interested to see what people say about their experiences...

ICBW, but I thought the OEM is made by B&M...

I drove a 996 Turbo with B&M and it is notchy, but it feels more precise into each gear along with more effort. I liked it actually, but I don't hate the standard GT3 shifter feel.

I had the B&M SSk in my GT3. The action was very short and notchy, I equated it to a bolt action rifle. It was fun at first, but after driving a friends stock GT3 I knew I had to go back. I found the increased effort was killing the joy I got from stirring the tranny. Remember that the the GT3 is already ~15% shorter on the tranny end. Now combine that with the B&M ~30% reduction gives an overall reduction of ~45%. This is something one should really try before doing. FYI... the consensus is the Porsche SSk is a rebadged B&M SSk.

My current setup is the standard shifter with the Evo "No slack" needle bearings and Evo billet shift link. I am very happy with my hybrid shifter.

I drove a Turbo with factory SSK; very nice IMO, better feel than my GT3, and my car's shifter does not feel sloppy or weak.

Does anyone know if the 997 SSK might be compatible? I have my stock 997 shifter box from my old car.

Can I combine any of the items above with the OEM short shifter?

The Evo needle bearings end caps are made to work with the stock shifter. I don't know if they will work with the B&M/Porsche SSK as they both come with their own aluminum billet/teflon end caps. I do know the Evo shiftlink will work with the B&M/Porsche SSk.

Just to add to what I said above... Friends that felt my GT3 w/ B&M shifter all commented on how much shorter it felt relative to their TT's equiped with the same SSk.

Porsche Motorsports offers the entire shift linkage for the Cup Cars. As I recall it, it's three pieces which come assembled when you order all three, and includes a plastic shift alignment tool. The cost is around $650, and it takes about 2 hours to install. I've installed it on my GT3. It feels like the bolt action of a Webley 222! It's worth every penny.

I have the B&M SSK...no notchiness(if that's a word), smooth as silk and fantastic. Of course that is on a TT. I have heard lots of different opinions on this (I know I found a number of threads on the topic). I also heard that some dealers think the 3rd party SSKs are a problem?...Best bet is to give it a try yourself.

I agree with WROSS996TT I have B&M on my GT3 and love it. I had one also in my Boxter I have to say relly dont know whay every body compains about it. Your shifts will be short, quick and acurate. so If any thing go for it Evoms has a good deal on it you can't go wrong. great upgrade.
