I don't know if it was the same problem, but in the Spring, the local dealer here changed a GT3 motor on a car with very low milage. I happened to be at the dealer while they were doing it. I'll ask next time.

Sorry to hear about this, but looks like Porsche AG is taking good care of you.

Did you have to get any adjustment for the altitude? I think there was a service bulletin on this for 2004 models but I don't know if it applied to 2005.

No, it was my understanding that this was taken care of for 2005.

Hmmm.... I don't have the rpm dependent noise in my car, that I have noticed. But on cold start, it is fricken LOUD. I figured it is just because it is oil-starved for a second. Do all of your cars rattle LOUDLY on cold starts too? Is the cold start rattle related to the failure JTW is having, or is that "normal", as I suspected?

Mine sounds like a can of marbles for around 90 seconds.

The same thing happened to my '02 996 last January. The shaft broke apart in the engine and destroyed it. I also have a GT3, but so far it's ok. So, this problem is not unique to the GT3 block.

90 SECONDS!!!! Damn. Mine is loud for approx 1 second...until the oil pressure is built up.

My exhaust note is louder than normal for about 90 seconds or so.....maybe that is what you are referring to?

Same for me-can of marbles in the morning for about 1 min 30sec. Live in the city-nice/cold : ). Personally I like how it sounds at warmup : )-sounds pissed off that you woke it up. Mike

I would suggest asking that PCNA provide you with a Porsche 6yr/100K mile warranty in exchange for your inconvenience.

Hey. I've been looking at 996TTs and this line caught my attention. Knowing that the TT/GT3/2 all share the same block I wonder how and why it's 'prevalent' in the turbos. Did your tech mention anything?

Just curious. Thanks.

Artic Fox, and others. FWIW- I've mentioned this several times. When I first go to start the car, I turn the key to "on" let fuel pump, or whatever, run for a few seconds, turn key off, Repeat! Then start it....NO High revs, it never fails( hot or cold weather) w/ my car Would someone like to try it and let me know if it's just My car?

Excellent idea. I am going to do this!

I didn't ask given my disbelief at the news. I will follow up with the tech when I take my car back in for surgery.

I'll give it a try today. Mine is loud for the first second or so on a cold start-up. After that, it's fine.

Chris, I just stumbled on the "cure", and glad I did! I Don't like the idea of high revs on start-up.
