Why the slew of GT3's coming to market?

What costs that much? You're scaring me. I don't want to be in Larry's second group if I get a GT3.

I was thinking 6k a year and really hoping less than 10k a year.

Lets see.

Tires, brake pads, fluid change. Every 3 months its rotor change.

Tires alone are $1100. Throw in pads for $650 (just fronts) and fluid changes for engine. Every three months it gets worse cause I do front rotors. Every fourth month I do rear and tranny and diff fluid change.

It avgs about $2k a month, not including gas, signing up for events, hotels, and getting to and from the track. Factor those things in and I was at like $6k for the month of April.

But its all so well worth it. I can't get enough of this car.

I hope you're going to the track a lot more than I will to go through stuff that often. I'd probably only do 10-15 track days a year and maybe 10k miles total (street +track) a year. I'd guess this would be two sets of tires a year (long lasting cups or PS2s or toyos), maybe two sets of pads, a set or two of rotors, fluids etc per year. Is this anywhere near the correct consumption for that amount of use? Seems like this would be $6k a year unless big stuff comes up.

Other than oil/filter and brake fluids, what fluids are you replacing so often?

Yargk, it really depends on how hard you hammer the car. Cosmos seems like he's getting around pretty fast, and that will use up consumables much quicker. I have been know to run pretty hard myself. I have found that I get 3 track days on a set of slicks, 6 track days on R compound tires, 12 track days on front rotors and pads (all around) and so far 20 days on the rear rotors. Including oil & brake fluid changes which I do myself that works out to about $625 per day on slicks, and $425 on R compound tires. All track, lodging, fuel and transportation costs are in addition to that.

Considering the level of track work, that cost is probably not too bad..!
How has the car held up mechanically, with so many track miles..?
Any work needed on engine, gearbox, suspension.. or is the car as bullet proof as they say it is.?

Bullet Proof so far (knock on head).

I have been tracking cars for a bit now and have to say that the GT3 is closest to the e30 M3 as far as reliability.

I also like buying well driven cars. Not full blown track cars, but ones that are regularly taken to the track. It has been my experience that these cars are always better maintained then the garage queens. The fluids are always checked and anything that seems less then 100% is often replaced.

This car is awesome. It is truly the best of both worlds. I have literally driven from home, to the track, to the golf club and then to the supermarket and back home.

I am very happy so far.

Evan, you need to get the AP rotors. I have 4,000 track miles on them without any signs of cracking (and you know I don't poke around either). Not only do they save you money, but they perform better too. Not many mods can do that. The AP floating hats do not make that much noise, but I don't think you would care about that. So far, all the gang that has had them has had a great experience -no one has had to replace them yet. I replaced my OEM front rotors after 1,200 track miles.

another data point. my mpsc lasts about 900 track miles. rotors about 1000 track miles (ind. laguna seca which is very hard on brakes)...

vegas is right about floating rotors in their longer service life. i have a set of brembo floating rotors about 800 track miles on them, no cracks. but they ARE HELL noisy. vegas told me that AP's are quieter.

What i did to quiet the AP floating rotors is machine the bobets..
what that means is to remove the play on the disc to the hat...or you can order them this way....I could not stand the noise....much happier now.

Vegas, Baby!
You missed a rather inspiring track day at B'willow with my driving coach. I had a blast, learned a lot about the gas pedal (as in "how to push on it Hard!) and wimpy suspension ("sink and slide" was the motto). Car was well balanced in the PM, Awful in the AM (Did a bit of "tire reshaping" early on :-) We're on for the 13th/14th.

Pahrump July 30/31, Early AM?

OH...and on post, my AP's clatter like rocks in a garbage disposal... I only wish Yellows would stop better at 30...
