Default GT3 on the Autox Circuit

Haven't autox'd seriously since about '95. As my '93 RX-7 gained in hp (up to 400 hp at the end), the track suited my ham-fisted driving better. I am now in an '04 GT3, and have taken it out on the track for 2 DEs. The second one brought an $18K repair bill having lost it in the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca.

I've decided to follow the advice I give to most newbies looking to get on the track, that is, spend at least a season on the autox circuit getting good feel for the car. Since the GT3 is the first car that I've had with such a rear weight bias, it's headed for autocrossing for now.

Anyone have basic specs for me, alignment, tire pressures (MPS PS2s and Hoosier Grand Am Cups)? How about any techniques in using the high-winding engine?

Thanks

Driving is all about "seat time".

Agreed, and after an autox or two, I'll probably get back on the track with the GT3. I had about 8-10 track days a year with the RX-7, and was more than comfortable with it. I think my comfort level with the GT3 will improve with some autox days in it.

If you run SCCA SS class you want max negative camber that you can get on the front, I have -1.6 left and -1.8 right. You cannot use front Camber shims or rotate the struts in Stock. I run .04 total toe in on the front and .10 total toe in on the rear. Rear camber is - 2.6. I am unning Hoosier A3SO5's front's 245/35 and either305/30 or 285/30 rears. If you run 245/40 on the front you will probably get some rubbing on the fender liner. I get app. 100 runs on asphalt and rotate the tires after app. 60 runs.

The car is very competative in SS, my codriver won the Atlanta Tour and Gary Thomason won the Atwater Pro in a GT3.

Sorry to hear about your car at LS. Definitely the GT3 has a steep learning curve and LS and Infineon aren't forgivable coarses. I spun at LS at Turn 4 trying to go flat out. Well if you plan to go back to the track I think T-hill is the best coarse to begin with-alot of runoffs. Regards. Mike

Peter, thanks for the info. Any tire pressure recommendation?

Mike, I do intend to get back on track, and it will definitely be Thill and Bwillow until I feel very comfortable with the GT3.

For autoX, I think 38/40 hot on Michelin Pilot Sports is reported to work well.

I run 45# front and rear, I still need to to some skid pad/Pyrometer work on tire pressures but 45# is a good starting point for the Hoosier's

Thanks. Which reminds me, I have a pyro somewhere in my stash of goodies that hasn't seen the light of day for awhile. Need to dig it out.
