Any info on Porsche Buyback: Red GT2 from CA
Anybody have any scoop on the 2002 GT2 that Porsche bought back from an owner in CA? I heard various rumours about the reasons but would like as much information as possible.
Yeah an interesting buy opportunity presented itself and I'm trying to be patient and diligent.
Thanks,
Chuck

If that's the car I'm thinking of, the former owner's stepson hangs out on 6speedonline. Might want to ask over there.

I'm pretty sure Code Red means that it has a salvage title as a result of the lemon law buyback. It seems that the buyers market treats the two similarly although I note that I've witnessed two buy backs in Houston (non Porsche) where the customer had unrealistic expectations of a European car. High dollar machinery has more systems. More systems means more complexity. More complexity means more difficult to diagnose and repair. Leads to lemon law buybacks.
I know that the CA lemon law is tougher on manufacturers than Texas.
If somebody turned in a relatively high mileage GT2 due to four or five rear links being replaced, a seat heater or two and a RMS, I'd be a buyer. I'd be willing to own it long enough that the value difference might not matter much.
That's why I'm trying to determine the reason with out directly dealing with the seller. He might have a vested interest in minimizing the past and I don't want to rely on legal fraudulent enducement enforcement.
Thanks to all,
Chuck

I don't have any information on that car, but I think you should keep researching it.
I talked to a Porsche dealer about a different car that they were forced to "Buy Back" under the US Lemon Law. They said it is a requirement that the car be handled at the wholesale level and the dealer can't resell the car. I don't know if some state auction company gets the car or what because the dealer would not tell me who had the car and the rights to sell it. I assume that there will not be any warranties what so ever from Porsche AG on one of those cars.
