league with a GT3? I have a friend with a Z8. He seems to think that on the track he would fair better than keeping up through the country roads?

Take him to the track and wave as you lap him! Z8 is a great car, but it is for cruising, not for the track.

Rolo - Having driven a Z8 for only an hour, my opinion is that the Z8 is a high performance luxurious Grand Touring car with compromises oriented to its intended use on the street. The GT3 is also compromised - it trades off streetability for hard core track performance. Everything had side-effects after all.

My buddie has the Alpina. Beautiful car, but he sure can't hang driving through the country twisties!

I had the chance to meet you few months ago at Gene's shop. Thanks for the Castrol SRF (Seal Grey GT3).
My pig is in a diet. Hopefully hitting the 2700lbs soon, but still heavy.
You might let us know what CF/Ti parts can be installed in our GT3s.
Regards...

I guess old habits die hard, I thought I'd just drop by for one last look before deleting the GT3 bookmark, and saw this thread, so of course I had to throw my $.02 in!

Bob, you know I'm waiting!!!
it is a nice car .... but after driving it I'm convinced it is no track car.
It's actually a really fun track car, though not as perfect in that mission as the GT3, yet it is a big smile torque monster that drives really well and powerslides in a most satisfying manner!

Having had the pleasure of 17 months with a GT3, and nearly 5 years with 2 Z8's I can say that a really well set up Z8 can never keep up with a GT3, but a GT3 will never ever be as pleasurable as a the Z8 as weekend away roadster, top down, blasting up highway 1, or chilling in the beautiful SoCal countryside. Last summer I used my GT3 as a camera car for a video clip of a really well set up Z8 at Buttonwillow, and I was easily able to outpace it. If you look at the 'ring times you'll see a Z8 can just about manage 8:16, change the tires, suspension etc and maybe you'll get to 8:10 while I think the latest GT3 figures are at 7:48. There speaks the 'ring, but speed isn't everything, enjoying a fine wine requires savoring it, not gulping it.
Well, I guess that's over and out from me guys, my GT3 left yesterday morning. You'll likely see it posted here with it's new owner before long.
Anyway take care out there, enjoy those stunning cars to the max, keep 'em shiney side up, and thanks for being a fantastic resource for the last 17 months immersion into Porsche-land!

ive had some major seat time in an early Z8, its a brilliant GT car, very comfortable
these cars are really not comparable, the GT3 is much purer, much more driver oriented and hardcore. it is a focused track ready supercar for the road.
the Z8 on the other hand, is one of the most beautiful BMWs ever, great power, comfort, convertible. really a GT car.
apples and oranges

I have both cars and I love my Z8 as a road car/cruiser and just to sit and look at, but it could never keep up with the GT3. Totally different cars. Nothing wrong with that of course.
