Is that Dublin neighbouring to San Ramon, outside San Francisco?

If you don't mind traveling I would look in snow country for a better winter deal. I would expect to be able to get app. 7% off list on a new car. Thye question is how much is your time worth looking. By the time you figure in travel costs and shipping you have used up a lot of your savings. I took the other route and purchased a snow car and drove it home, had a great time and it arrived with the breakin complete and ready to run.

I agree with '85Gold' if you are willing to buy from within the US and not just your local area you should be able to get a better deal. The 'must have the newest car' crowd has moved on and there is a good supply of used cars available in the $9X,xxx price zone regardless of cosmetic options.

Tom,

Cool, my parents used to live there (Hacienda Dr.) until last year. Now retired back home in Sweden. Good luck with the GT3 purchase!

Inskip Porsche (401 821-1510) in Warwick RI had a speed yellow GT3 sitting outside (now covered in 42" of snow). They may be trying to find a good home for it this time of year; it's been there 3-4 months or so.
If you call, ask for Kirk. He's a good guy to deal with.

I hate the way Porsche dealers treat their inventory. Guess the showroom needs to be kept clear so the salesmen can drive their RC cars.

Tom, I bought my car in August (@ Beverly Hills) and found that the SoCal dealers were much more realistic on price (plus the transportation costs are very low--$100 plane ticket, some fuel and a few hours of your time). Use Porsche's website to review dealer inventory, call the dealers to see if they have anything not listed on their site and how much they're willing to deal. 7% off seems very realistic. PM me if you want more info.

I got $3K off an 05 last month in Southern California and was very happy with that deal. The GT3 is the bargain in the Porsche lineup. Silver likely has better resale value.

on the east coast you can surely get 6-8% off mabye even with free shipping to the west coast

many dealers are desperate to dump their 996s, which includes 04 GT3s, (05 GT3s are in a bit higher demand).

time to make some long distance calls

Why not get a pre-owned one and save yourself a chunk of change? Get a 'lightly used' '03 or '04 and you'll be golden.

schvetkaakes:

the used ones are only 10k~ below the MSRP of a new one, if one could get 7-8k off a new one, its worth their while to get the new one if not only for peace of mind.

also goes back to the discussion about usage statistics on that other thread.

many of these cars have been flogged by dentists and lawyers, improperly broken in, or tracked.

not worth it to save 2-4k.

TOM91722, I just bought a 2005 on the east coast (I'm in Colo.) and did pretty good. I am having the car shipped as we speak. PM me if you want further details.

BTW, as for the lightly used option, I think this is a good strategy as long as you don't care about breaking the car in. While there have been a couple extremely lightly used cars sold recently by rennlisters (that I did not jump on soon enough) I am generally sick of getting hosed on used cars and wanted a pristine new one to screw up on my own.
