Looking for help finding a cup wing
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone direct me towards the wing pictured below. Have any of you replaced the stock GT3 wing configuration with the cup version? Any advice or pros & cons would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bruce

Cons -
You might burn up your rear tires really quick with all that downforce (that you won't be needing-unless you are planning on racing it at cup speeds-which you might not get to with the additional drag without the corresponding weight reduction). Also, I would say with a wing that big you really want to match up your suspension and front downforce to balance it. Remember these wings are put on cars that are several hundred pounds lighter than a stock GT3.
I am actually going to a RS wing as a compromise, I just likes the looks better and I am willing to make the other adjustments.

Yes Neil...Just like that! Any info is greatly appreciated.
Vegas: Great advice. I am toying with the RS version as well. I guess I'm thinking track first and street a distant second. Thanks

I was at Laguna Seca last week and 3 of the GT3s had a wing that looked like the one you are interested in. It was carbon fiber and the angle was easy to adjust. All 3 complained about the silly caps that Porsche used to cover the adjustemnt cams (wear out and fall out easily). The wing was $2500 but they all liked it.
You might be able to call Bob at Devek (650 369-3383) to find a source. I know he takes care of at least one of the cars with the wing. I was under the impression they bought the wing from Porsche.

If you're serious about track work, I bet the wing will knock off a second or two. The cup cars don't have that much more downforce in the front than the street cars do they (just different bumper with hole next to trunk and angled radiator for an air passage)?, so the balance of downforce will be much different than a street GT3, but not that different from the cup cars. It's on the cup cars for a reason so it must be effective. I know it's an apples to oranges comparison, but I've read about early 911s that greatly benefited from wings that were HUGE when compared to just using a ducktail. I guess it helps to have a planted rear through fast corners.

It'll give you downforce for sure, but if you run any high speed tracks, it will kill your top end. I was driving my cup car at a Tremblant DE last year, and I drag raced a stock GT3 out of carousel. I got a great launch, and a passing signal (right Bob?), pulled even and then couldn't pull him before T10. I had mufflers on the car, but I still would have had at least 30 hp on him, and I weigh 500 lbs less, and he had another instructor in the car. All that downforce made T10 a lot more fun for me, but it sure does kill the speed. Be careful what you ask for.

RS Wings
So both the aluminum and carbon fiber wings are availble via Porsche Genuine (well made by another party and sold by Porsche). Carbon RS fiber lists for $2475 (without PDX [Porsche Direct Express] shipping, which will add 10% and is required for orders from Germany racing warehouse). It also weighs the same as the stock US GT3 painted wing. The aluminum wing is sourced via Porsche Motorsport and can be obtained direct for Cup Car owners, or via TRG or DEVEK for retail and license plate cars...price subject to change and availability subject to be scarce.
