The certification was brought up during the presentation. This is a Ruf VIN automobile. Not a Porsche. Alois said that they would be required to go through the entire certification twice (one federal, one California) and it wasn't worth it considering how few RGT RS would be produced...

yep carb is another BS agency.
i can't believe cars need special certification to be sold in california,
porsches destined for california need to have a special option/code i'm sure it doesnt add power, lets just leave it at that.

The first RUF RGT-RS was sold to a Californian. Dr Joe I know him as. The pictures I have seen of this RS show it still to be wearing German registration (from the town of Mindelheim).
This of course does not confirm anything but seeing as the car was delivered in April 2004 and in August 2004 at Monterey it is still wearing MN plates which certainly suggests there might be a problem in getting a CA plate.

Personally I don't know about a car like that. It does look pretty, but it is so over the top. I can't imagine that it will be anything but serious garage queen. After all, what if you took it to a track event. You'd better be the fastest SOB there, or you will be branded a serious POSER. I think that I'll stick to my "econo" GT3

I have just received this answer from somebody in the know,
Ciao,
Adrian.
The California emissions paperwork has not been complied with or figured out and California requires RUF to do a 50,000 mile "test" as part of the application process. RUF have only done a 2000 mile test.

i can't believe cars need special certification to be sold in california,
Take a nice, deep, carcinogenic breath in los angeles. Or, better yet, try and see the horizon.
Then it will be at least less hard to believe.
