Default Question for Viken

I'm having trouble with a recurring DTC of P0116 the dealer has not been able to cure it.
They now tell me they are waiting for a new TSB regarding a thermostat issue.
The temp gauge will stall at 60 degrees and then fall to zero..the gauge failure message appears on the dash and sometimes the "check engine" light will be set.
The problem only happens when ambient temp is below 15 celcius.
I also notice that only the R/H rad fan comes on and only the R/H fender feels warm to the touch.
Maybe the problem is the thermostat between the two rads.
If the engine is idled until warm the problem never occurs.
The light only comes on when the car is driven (air flow through the rads)
Any thoughts on this and any news on any TSB's related to this.

Ron,

I have not heard of these problems and I don't know of any TSB regarding a thermostat issue. If I do hear something or receive a copy of that TSB, I will surely inform you.

Many thanks......I think I'll wear out the OBDII connector having to keep clearing the codes.

Also, as far as I know, only one radiator has a fan on it (possibly the right one) in order to save weight. So that could be related to some of the symptoms you've described--

Not sure that's correct. Both side radiators have a cooling fan, but the center one does not.

Perhaps he was thinking of the GT2 -- Porsche did dispense with the left-hand radiator fan in that model due to the greater efficiency of the central radiator.

That's interesting. Jack, did your GT2 only have 1 fan? The parts database is showing the same two fans for both the GT3 and GT2.

Here's a cutaway pic of the GT3. I guess they do have only one fan.

Yes, only 1 fan. The lack of a left-hand fan was also mentioned in the GT2 Product Information brochure at page 8 -- I think you got one of those from a good friend.

When I got my car, the dealer mentioned that it only had one, and that they could install another if I wanted them to, in order to keep it cool in traffic in the summer. I opted to just stay as is, and I notice the water temp does fluctuate a bit in traffic in 80+ degree weather, at least more than the '02 C2 I used to have did. Anyway, it seems to be fine with just the one--

Geoff.

Thanks, Jack. What's even worse is that I didn't even know my own car had only one fan. Maybe I am not worthy of it?

Anyone want a white GT3?

Viken,

I would like a white GT3. It looks nicer than my Artic Silver version. A pair of white wones would look nice in the garage. By the way, I got some 5 mm wheel spacers from Gert and the OZ wheels now look just right in front.

Rgds,
