I need a GT3 Shorter Transmission. Any help?
I was reading that the GT3 transmission allows the 2nd to 6th gear ratios to be replaced.
I'm ok with my first gear, but I'm not ok with the 2nd to 6th gear ratios.
83mph in 2nd
116mph in 3rd
153mph in 4th
Practically my 5th and 6th gears are useless at the tracks where I drive, with the exception of Watkins Glen. At Watkins Glen I have the luxury to run 5th for less than 3 seconds.
I would like to have a 65mph 2nd gear, 90mph 3rd, 115mph 4th, 140mph 5th, 170mph 6th.
Gas mileage is not an issue, engine sound in 6th at 80mph is not an issue.
Any opinions on how to upgrade my transmission, who could do it, pricing (if possible)?
I don't want to buy a Cup car transmission and sell mine, when they are essentially the same with different gear ratios and final ratio.

I looked into this about a year ago. Both Porsche Motorsport and Guard sell a large variety of gear ratio combinations. I recall pricing then was somewhere in the $800-$1000 per gear range, plus labor.

You might want to consider getting a used cup gear box assuming it has been refreshed. It could be cheaper than replacing the gears and final ratio. Assume 5k for gears, 1,500-2,000 for the pinion gear, and 2 to 3k in labor. Plus syncos and some other small stuff. You would be able to switch them back and forth for street and track. Plus it would help resale value.
As far as gears 65 for 2nd is way to short for the track and would only be useful for improving your 0 to 60 time. Most race cars have a taller 1 & 2 and shorter 3 - 6 versus there street counterpart. I would use the cup gear and final drive ratio. I used 2-6 on most tracks and only topped out 6th at Road America with them.

Just a thought,
I got a brand new 993 Supercup gearbox from a racing team who kept is as a spare and had no need for it as they were moving on to the 996 Cup cars.
With teams moving on to the sequential gearboxes in the 997 Cup, history may repeat and there may be a few spare new boxes coming up for sale.

Try Manfred Freisinger in Karlsruhe http://www.m-freisinger.de/ or you might try Larbre Competition http://www.larbre-competition.com/ in France. You might look up the website of the UPS team as well as other teams.

Greg:
Can I buy an used refreshed Cup car transmission from them?
I'm definitely buying a Cup Car transmission. I like the gearing on the standard Cup car.

Be sure you confirm you are getting the gearing for 2003 and 2004 Cup cars, before that they gears were much taller. But really it is not big deal to have your own redone. Figure $900 - $1,000 per gear - change 3-6, labor should be about $1,500 from any good race shop.
