Let me get ths straight: $8-10,000 for a set of mag wheels? For the street? At 15 lbs., what happens when you hit a pothole--Oh, I know-- your wallet bounces out, and more silly-money spills onto the floorboards of your GT3 STREET.

These things don't even look all the swell compared to the new one-piece BBS wheels on the 997 Cups...

What wheels are popular for track days with the GT3? I met one owner who bought a spare set of the stock GT3 wheels and another was thinking of 3-piece BBS wheels (not sure which ones).

I personally like the Fikse Profil 13 in 9 & 11; others, like Larry H., prefer Fikse five-spokes. I am also a big fan of BBS Motorsport wheels, which require more maintenance. Prices, unfortunately, are similar.

They are gorgeous but that price is a bit hard to swallow. I got my Veloce GT1s for under $2,000 and they weigh the same.

I like your taste Curt. Just put new BBS RE's on my 951, with 265 and 285 MPSC's I bought from "DC Lee". Where'd you get faux centerlock thingees?

If you can't swallow the cost of the Mg version, these give you the look for way less cash. They are fully forged and not exactly heavy, 19-20#'s

These wheels (BBS RE 794, RE 795 above) look beautiful! Would they be able to handle the rough roads and potholes of Los Angeles? Who else makes a similar wheel in one-piece?

I really like the Fikse Profil wheels, but I would be happy with a one-piece.

Thanks! BBS sells the faux center lock thingees. I know these wheels are pricey, but I couldn't resist. These wheels are 16 lbs in the front 17.55 lbs for the rears.

The fake center locks look a little funny to me, but they're better than having nothing on the centers. I think my next step is to get custom, plain centers machined from one of the local aerospace or racing machine shops.

I can't seem to stop buying various things for the car ... it's an addiction

The wheels are 18x9 front, 50 offset; the rear are 18x11, 59.5 offset.

I have 5mm spacers on the front to make the spacing math work out. I had 7mm H&R spacers machined to 5mm. Also, I'm using 60mm steel race studs and steel lug nuts.

I got them from Speedware in Redmond, WA. I understand (now that the race season is over) BBS USA has a stack of them in the warehouse, BBS wheel dealers can get them for you, I think. The part numbers are RE794, RE795 and they come from the Japanese division of BBS.

The BBS RE wheels shown above on the 951 are nice pieces, it's too bad that they are only available in 2 sizes with a 5 X 130 mm PCD: 18 X 10 ET 65mm and 18 X 8.5 ET 56mm. These weigh 20 and 19 pounds each respectively. They are forged aluminum and also made by BBS of Japan. Tirerack sells them for a little over $500 each.

The question is: why didn't Porsche use a light wheel like this in the first place? They could not have added that much to the cost of construction. I can understand not having forged magnesium, but I don't understand the heavy cast units supplied with the car.

Don't know if they're strong enough to stand up to really rough roads and potholes. I do hear about racers who own magnesium wheels dealing with cracked wheels occasionally.
