How do you explain your GT3?
It's obvious already (36 hours) that a GT3 attracts a lot of attention which leads to a lot of questions from people who aren't really in to cars. Then you're faced with the "what is a GT3?" and "aren't all Poorsh street legal race cars?"
So, how do you explain the GT3 to your co workers, Mom or the guy at the drive thru car wash? (kidding)....

Not really an issue here in LA, there are so many 911's no one even gives it a second look!
When I do get asked I say it is the street legal version of the GT3 class race car that Porsche have been winning at Le Mans and Daytona with for the last 5 years. That seems to make folks smile and nod approvingly :-))

I didn't think it would be an issue either with all the 911's running around here in SF, but people constantly ask me what it is (including a guy down the block with a 993 C4S). I tell them it's a special version of the 911 loosely based on the race car--lower, lighter, more powerful engine, etc. and if they want to know more I elaborate.
The rear wing seems to grab people's attention. They have a need to touch it. That's the reason I'd be nervous about getting the RS wing, despite the fact that it looks so awesome. Too much money for me to put at risk like that.

My neighbors all think I'm nuts anyway so they've given up asking! When I drive it I never stop long enough for many to ask but it does attract attention at the gas station!! Actually I'm surprised that the Cayenne attracts almost as much attention on the highway as the GT3, and all the rice rockets want to race as much in that as in the GT3! Go figure...

Funny you should mention this topic.
Just last night I had a women in her mid 30's come running up to me saying that she loves the GT3 and always thought that the 996 was the bet variant of the GT cars except for the 2.7RS. I was actaully in shock.
But usually people around my town know what it is, it's weird but we have a pretty large group of car savy people.

Just got back from a 350 mile break in jaunt through the Eastern Washington farm country - what a nice road car, something I didn't anticipate. Can't wait to get on the revs a bit.

Mark, what color is your car? See you around
Just returned to Seattle from my second long road trip in the last year (the first being the 4k miles across country after pickup) ... another 3k miles over the last month down through California coast, Monterey historics, Atwater auto-cross (along w/ the T1 Z06), great time. Love those Northern California roads.
I got stopped a number of times to tal about the GT3, mostly by teenagers who, more often than not, knew exactly what it was. Everything from what is it to the downforce improvement w/ both the wing and mini-duck tail (speaking of which I don't really know the behavior of both...I have my theories but anyone want to explain why 2 instead of a single wing).
