Default A little OT: 997 PCCB's

Maybe this is not the right place, but now that I own 997S PCCB's, I am really interested in whether they "fixed" the problem. It seems clear that this is now generation II of the PCCB's based on their sales language, and any changes they made also may help explain the defects with the GT3 PCCBs. Any info would be appreciated.

have any of you that have switched to steel rotors noticed and difference in performance?

I think its kind of stupid for porsche to push the brakes as being super high performance, if cant you use them as such. I mean its not like you need monster brakes on the street. Whats the point?

Also they are basically a cast aluminum matrix alloy, I don't see how they are charging so much, Aluminum parts are usually cheaper to cast than steel parts. I think porsche is making a killing on them, unless the defect rate in production is very high.

Just lend me your new 997S for a little while. I'm sure we can have an answer for you lickity-split!

Richard, I have not had any specific problems with my PCCB's as of yet(no driving/track events) but still feel I was mislead and would not have purchased the option given what we all know now. I would like to track the car sometime in the future and I do not really realish the thought of having to worry about the condition of my pads/rotors after each and every run. I'm considering the upgrade that has been mentioned on this board from Rennsport Systems but hate the idea of having to throw more money at what should have been done right the first time. Count me in.

Konstantin,

If these 'new' PCCBs are truely 10 times stronger,
PAG/ PCNA SHOULD offer to retro all current PCCB owners with these supposely new and improved rotors.

Would they ,should they , could they - that's the
million dollar queston here.

Richard-My car was delivered in May and I have about 4000 miles and 6 or 7 DE events-I have had the brakes checked after the last couple of events and no problems yet. However, had I been aware of the problems I would not have ordered the PCCB's-otherwise it is a terrific car. I assume that complete or partial failure is close at hand (only 2 more events this year), so count me in.

The 997 Cup PCCB front brake is 380 mm diameter instead of 350 mm. Rear is still 350 mm, I wonder if thickness is same front to rear as in past.

Viken-

The source for the 380 mm brake diameter in the front was the Porsche website, http://www3.porsche.com/gt3/pcna.asp

Part of the text of the brake system section of which is quoted below:

"-front aluminium six-piston calipers, single-piece
-internally vented brake discs, 380 mm diameter, race brake pads

-rear aluminium four-piston caliper, single-piece
-internally vented brake discs, 350 mm diameter, race brake pads "
