Default GT2 I want to improve the precision of gear shifting

Guys in the past around 2002 I was using 996 cup car gear lever mechanism and cables in my GT2.
now i got GT2 again
After 22 years what is best solution?

997 shifter with Function-First mods is relatively inexpensive and good.

Avoid a short shifter as they don't work well.

I like 996 shifter with function first shift rite solution rebuild kit, 996 cup cables and street durometer poly trans mount insert. I have this in my road car and it’s the closest feel to the 996 cup without going solid engine and gearbox mounts. 996 cup cables are NLA and hard to find but numeric makes the closest equivalent.

I too want to improve the feel of the gearshift. For those Rennlisters who are from Europe, when I say the gearshift on my Toyota GR Yaris is better, more precise and more weighted than the one on my GT3, you'll know what I mean.

I was thinking to get, at the minimum, the Numeric Cables. I have both the stock 996 shifter and the 997.2 GT3RS shifter (with metal bushes) and both shifters have pros and cons and neither are brilliant.

What are people's views on Numeric vs Function First shifters? I'm not after really short shifts, but I wouldn't want to go much longer than 997.2 GT3RS and definitely no shorter...

Anyone here with part numbers for the cup shifter, cables and a bolt that is very important?
I have to check how much it cost now.

I have a Numeric shifter and cables in my GT3 and I really like them. It was already installed when I bought it. My previous turbo had a 997.2 GT3 shifter and I never liked that one. The Numeric cables will introduce significantly more NVH, maybe the insulation tubing they sell would help with that, I haven't been in a car that had the tubing so i cant say. I have heard that some feel the Numeric throw is too short, hasn't been an issue for me.

Numeric seems to be the best bet.

I bought the 7.2 GT3 shifter for mine and I was surprised just how much movement there was forward and back when it's in gear, you can physically see the shifter rod moving the bearings forward & back. That, and there was excessive amounts of play in the rest of the plastics.

I'd go Numeric or Function First, knowing what I know now....!

I have the 7.2 GT3 shifter in my 7.2GT3. It's OK in a street car but throws are too short for aggressive and positive shifting on track. The Numeric is even shorter on a GT3/2/Cup gearbox. I know one guy on here has re-drilled the Numeric shaft to alter the fulcrum to give a longer throw. My favorite is the longer throw 996Cup shifter paired with Cup cables. Neither is available but you can buy a regular 996 Carrera shifter on eBay for $100 and install the FF bearing kit which essentially gives you a Cup shifter. I tried the Numeric years ago and couldn't stand it. Throws too short and too notchy. YMMV. Try before you buy is the best advice... Good luck
