Default A/C is out

Been running without it most of the Spring but tried to turn it on yesterday and no cold air. The auto fan works, the fuses look good, and the belt is turning, so I'm taking it in to the dealer tomorrow (I hate to say it).

Anyone else had a problem with their A/C?

I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago. The dealer refilled the "refrigerant" (mixed it with a dye) and asked me to come back if it stops working again. The a/c stopped working a few days ago, so I have to take it back to see where the dye has accumulated (ie. source of the leak), and get it fixed. Appointment scheduled for Fri. 18th.

So far so good and it's been humid and hot here in flyover country the last few days. I'm not too proud to use the AC- hope it's not a trend in the GT3...

I think I'll try mine tomorrow, just to make sure it works.

Is A/C a dealer installed option?

mine went out this weekend on delivery. took it in and was fixed today. it was a leak at the right condenser connection to the lines. they had to remove right front inner fender and front bumper shroud to get at it and use the dye and u/v light to find it. it works great now.

Is A/C a dealer installed option?
i thought they all had AC - but the option was for some more advanced climate control (set the temp and it does its thing?)?

curious to get this clarification as well.

or is the car sans AC unless you order that option (573 - a no cost option)?

doody.

AC with auto temp control is standard on all GT3's. There is an AC delete option (no credit given) for people who want to save 40 odd pounds of weight.

bob - so what's option 573? the order guide simply shows it as:

"573 - A/C with Full Climate Control - $0" in the "Technical" section.

tia,
doody.

When I ordered my car last year (Feb) there was no "A/C" delete option, maybe there is now. If you didn't order 573, you still got A/C but with manual, 3 **** controls. 573 simply added the auto temp, set and forget, feature.

I ordered option 574 "No Air Conditioning Desired" and got the 3 **** panel. There is a heater in the car but no AC. When the car arrived I replaced the radio with the factory shelf and removed the speakers.

i'm APPALLED they left the f@!*ing cup holder thing in there!!!!!

never mind that it's anathema in a GT3, it's not like it's even useful on ANY 996!

very very funny. good for a morning chuckle - thanks for the pic.

doody.

Karl: My understanding is A/C means digital controls and no-A/C means 3 **** controls. Every car I've seen pictures of with the 3 **** controls lacks the snowflake button that would indicate A/C (the big button at the bottom of the 3 **** panel is recirculate).

Karl - perhaps the Canadian Order guide was different but when I ordered mine last year there were two choices AC or no AC. If you picked the AC delete you got the three **** system. With AC you got the digital system. I figured it was better to take the AC and remove components (expensive components!) since the cost was the same either way.

I had a catastrophic failure last week which I posted about. Basically, after running at the track all day with no AC, when I turned it on the impeller seized and then imploded.

All fixed now, no worries.
