Default Wiring Harness

Hello Everyone,

Long time follower first time posting. I've owned my 996.1 GT3 for a little over 3 years now. After dealing with small issues every couple of months I decided to do a full overhaul of the car including the engine.

I'm almost done with the full overhaul, however I'm stuck with the wiring harness. I'm not able to find 2 of the main harnesses.
Could you guys kindly advise if I could have these built or know of any available.

Part # of all 5 I'm looking to replace

996 612 903 00 (not available)
996 612 905 00 (not available)
996 607 012 98
996 612 302 01
996 612 303 05

Regards,
Taz

You might check with Kroon Wiring Harnesses in The Netherlands. While they do not list the 996 as a supported vehicle, they may be able to help you out. http://www.kroonwireharnesses.com

Hi Toby,

Thanks for your reply,

I forgot to mention that I've already checked with kroon and unfortunately they cannot build it for me.

Here are a few pictures of my current harness for reference.

Regards,
Taz

What is wrong with your actual harness?
I would rather drop it and swap to a Bosch MS3 Sport like on the 996 - 991.1 cup cars, because your ecu is getting really old now.
That ecu will be a further problem because even the new ones which you can buy from porsche for a small fortune are old now.

I had already a broken ecu in my GT3 996.1 and I am thinking about doing that move.

After completion of the engine overhaul, there's a sluggish acceleration between idle and 3k rpm after which it feels like vtech kicks in. (Sorry about the Honda reference).
Hence, I asked the workshop to check and tune the car to have a more smoother power curve.
At the time of tuning they say they're not able to read signals from various points. When they checked the wiring they come back to me saying the previous owner has had some wiring work done which wasn't done correctly and there are a lot of joints and taping which may be causing the issue.
Their long term solution to this is either buying a complete new set of wiring harness from Porsche or having one built by a wiring expert.

I'll check the option of swapping to a Bosch MS3 Sport. Would you have a reference link of a similar build?
Would I lose any oem functionality?

Thanks and Regards,

Murtaza

Check the 996CUP PDFs from Porsche which you can get.
Link for the file must be in the cup section here.
Article numbers for the harness is also there.

It is not plug&play. You need someone who knows what he does.
Where are you from?

Hi Jupp,

Thanks for your reply.
I'm living in UAE.

Currently the tuner suggests only wiring issues, and even with moving to the Bosch ms3 sport I'd still have to sort the wiring harness.
I didn't find the harness being a package with the Bosch ECU.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

Regards,

Taz

Hi,

you must look in the 996 Cup parts catalogue. For cars from 2002-2005
