The official 996 GT2 price thread

Oh, I feel your pain... And I wished I had not said no to an independent dealer when offered a genuine '73 Carrera RS for $10,000 some time around 1994.
But $50+K for a lightly used GT2 was amazing at that time. Ironic that the 996 GT3 and GT2 cars were a hard sell after the 997 appeared. My '04 GT3 sat on the dealer's lot for a month before I picked it up in 2006 with 5,500 miles. It will be 18 years of ownership this December 6th.

A popular podcaster I listen to says, "You can have anything, but you can't have everything." So true.

Looks like another yellow coming up soon or I missed it already on PCARMARKET, am pretty sure it's the euro spec (no bumperettes) that was for sale at a east coast FL dealer last year for $180k-$189k, the video is at Orbit Racing down in Riviera Beach, FL, great shop, they know GT2s well.

Both are great, just depends on your use case

Agree with this, but would add that per my butt dyno, 997-2 felt much faster. Probably due to the variable vane turbos that make lag feel non-existent. I'd be curious to drive a 996 gt2 with "light mods" (i.e., tune, exhaust, ic's, filter), and see how that compares to a bone stock 997 gt2. All the examples I have ever sampled were bone stock. If light mods on a 6-2 could get you close to the torque/power of the 997 gt2, the 996 gt2 would be the easy choice as a value proposition, as it seems that in most cases 7-2's are trading at nearly 100k more than a comparable 6-2.

A tune only 996 should outrun a 997...a few bolt ons and they run with a 991 2rs

Really? If so that makes me want a 996 even more! I'm not doubting you, but man, based on my seat of the pants impression, the 997 in stock form felt much more powerful. If a tune and some bolt on mods could close that gap (even if only "perceived,"), that's the way to go! The 996 definitely felt more nimble. But I have a 996 already so I'm somewhat drawn to the 997 for the different driving experience it offers and the fact that it would be a better "roadtrip" car that my wife might actually agree to ride in!

yup! one thing Porsche doesn't add much when they do their HP increases is a jump in torque...aftermarket tunes have a ton more torque in them.
996's are more reliable but 997's are faster out of the box -Same basic engine 996 vs 997 GT2..some differences in intake and camshafts(997 have to be pinned) and VGT's. Same weight both cars, 997 has longer gears 1-4 , which you can swap into 996 if desired (I've done 1-3), but a much worse LSD in 997 (need a Guard)
Both generations are getting old so make sure you try a couple examples of each to make sure you feel out a good running example
Can't go wrong with either
