Talking Track day with Pilot Sport Cup tires

Went to my first track day on Monday at Pacific Raceways with the Pilot Sport Cup Tires ... wow!

The car is really stable at high speeds (159 mph was the highest speed I glanced at on the speedo at end of the long straight into Turn 1).

The somewhat nervous feedback from the rear end is gone in the corners. Oh yeah, and there's massive grip in the twisty bits!

The tires held up quite well, too, given the almost 200 miles that I drove.

Highly recommended if you spend much time driving on the track.

I am about to fit a set, so I look forward to the increased grip and stability. How much road driving do you do, or is the car just a track car?

Did you get the 235/40/18 Sport cups for the front?

Mine are the 225/40/18's and they seemed fine. When the tires were hot there was the usual bit of low-speed understeer that you get w/ 911's. Overall, turn-in is phenomenal.

Macfly -- I do drive the car almost every day. One question, where did you get the 235/40/18's? The tirerack didn't have them listed.

curtsm,

Just ask one of the tire rack phone sales reps for the 235/40 x 18 MPSCs. Tire Rack is the exclusive supplier for this size. However, be aware that there is a one month waiting list, which extended to two for me, so I ended up trying the Corsa tires.

Great! I'll look for you there.

You can register for the Friday, April 23rd event at: http://www.oregonpca.org/

If it isn't too much to ask, could this qualify for first dibs on a track ride in your car? I ask, because I know that you'll be in high demand once there.

I look forward to meeting you.

Take care,

Erick

So, you guys in Canada get the tires but have a hard time getting the GT3s?

Go figure.

Sometime I want to go down to Pacific Raceway and just watch. I get my license this weekend, so driving wouldn't be an option. Nor would I feel comfortable putting myself out there and slowing everyone else down, but it must be awesome at those events.

Good luck with the tires and racing.

MPSC are excellent. Also to be considered is the Dunlop SP Race, which is their R compound DOT tire. I tested this tire at Lime Rock yesterday, and the tire is extremely impressive with respect to lap time, response to driver input, and progression as limit approaches.

Default Good Info!

Hey Curt,

I was looking for exactly the info you posted! Great to know. I have a date with New Hampshire International Speedway's Road Course May 10th and 11th. I am a 4 week owner of a GT3 and can't wait to test the limits of the car. Anything else you can add about your experience would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck,

Bruce
