Default Chance to buy a wrecked 996 GT3 to part out...

Is there a big market for these 6 GT3s as part out candidates? Car is mostly complete. Full drivetrain, suspension is 90% intact, interior is stock and intake, accident wasn't that bad but got deemed a COD, so there is no reason to rebuild it. Best way to part it out? Ideas for values on Engine/gearbox? Etc.

Any insight would be great.

I’m looking for the radio unit, CDR-23. I’d buy that off you if the car has it

Gearbox 15K

Parting out inevitably will bring more money, it's just a question of if your time and space is worth it. Expect to have to hold onto items for a length of time. The big items will move fast, and then the real work starts with the little parts here and there that people are going to want a deal on.

Make sure you get good pictures of the damage. My first question would be, if it wasn't that bad and with the value of the cars right now why did they total it? Not accusing, just a question to expect as I've helped part out a few cars.

Is that the Aisin gearbox from the 997 GT3? I don’t know much about it but I know the Getrag box in the 996 is fully rebuildable being a true race H pattern box. Rarer and very expensive individual components. Maybe 10K?

The part catalogue says G97.90 after this number
That is an aisin box according the google search... Good point.

What about the shifting quality and reliabilty ? Getrag or Aisin?

Edit:
It seems that the G97.90 is made from getrag still

I bought the car yesterday. I'll figure out what I am going to do with it.

Only damage to the suspension is the front passenger lower control arm has a tweak in it.

Car still runs and limps around so drivetrain is healthy in my eyes, and shifts fine. I'll do a leak down/compression before pulling motor.

Thanks for the insight fellas.

Congrats! Don't part it out if you can!

Congratulations on your purchase.

Can you post post a picture or two, curious to see the car?

If it's an easy fix (no frame damage) consider that there were only about 1000 996 GT3 US VINs. The car will have a Carfax hit but that won't deter anyone who wants to track it or mod it. The engine from that car will only bolt into another GT3. Any other 996 chassis will require some modification. Read about the car if you're not familiar. The reviews and following are pretty strong. Some call this car the water cooled Carrera RS. Imagine if you had bought an easily fixable Carrera RS and instead sold it for parts

Yes, I would trailer it to a good body shop and pay them to check the chassis for straightness. If the chassis is good, I would fix the damage and drive crap out of it!
