Default How many are left?

Anyone have any idea as to how many GT2's there are left in drivable condition in NA and worldwide? It would seem that it could become a collectable at some point.

I'd love to know the answer to that question! I'm sure a number have been pranged, but written off? You can do a lot of repairs for the price of a GT2.

I have also seen a post saying that PAG will introduce a 997 GT2 as a 2007 model. I think we'll have to hold on to our cars for a long time before the become sought after collector items if ever. I figure, to heck with it, just enjoy it.

Regards,

Bob, I think much of that will depend on the styling and how 'raw' the '07 GT2 is. I will probably buy one but hopefully I will keep both GT2's.

Look at the collectible status of those 993 GT2's... they are worth a lot of $$$. If Porsche had a GT2 entry in the GTS class for GT or Le Mans racing, it would definitely prop up values for our cars.

Can you imagine if one had a 993, 996, and 997 GT2? Now THAT would be a formidable collection!

That Durham collection seems like a monument to wasted assets. Most of those cars are not appreciating in value, and they're hardly being driven, which will make for things like dried/cracked seals, hoses, etc., driving the value down even further. I am all for collecting, it just seems like the old cliche applies here -- the cars are made to be driven. If you just want to look at them, take a picture and sell the damn thing.

Oh well, to each his own.

MJones,
What year are the 7 GT 2s you are referring to?

That is a nice collection, however his numbers appear to me to be fuzzy.
In 1997 Porsche imported 176 Turbo S cars according to a letter generated by PCNA to a fellow rennlister. Also in 2002 I believe 164 GT 2s came to North America. In 1996 the Porsche 993 turbo came to America with 400 HP. But it's still a nice collection.

Bob, where did you read 997 GT 2? I read just the opposite.

MJones,
Sorry to belabor this but are those cars sitting at the dealers or inbound?
because I know of 1 at newport and suncoast but I didn't think IRA had theirs yet?

Also how do you access that information?

Ira has one on the floor: black/black
Believe all cars are on the floor not inbound.

Access to the info is easy: Your dealer can do a search for any model and geographic area. In this case it was GT2, all (nationwide). Takes about one minute to do.
Not all sales people have access to the computer, but for one who has it's really quick and simple.

MJones,
Thanks for the information. The reason I am confused is that I was under the impression that all 04 GT 2s needed an actual buyer and a deposit. I can not imagine why a dealer would order one of these impossible to sell cars to floor plan? My dealer didn't have an allocation and it took 6 months to get one. They were told they would get one only if they actually had a buyer. However they didn't start trying to get one until last summer so maybe the allocations had all been distributed by then.

What did your computer search tell you about how many 04 GT 2s would be coming to North America in total?

Not a US one but a sad sight none the less. Looks like an '04 based on the wheels.

I only looked for cars in country and found the 7.
The allocation system is somewhat strange and not all dealers get an allocation for this model, depending with whom you you are speaking to at your dealer makes for sometimes interesting stories and tales, since many sales professionals are in fact clueless.
Fact is they could go to the computer and find out a whole lot of info in a short amount of time, it's not a big deal. The search criteria can be specified by type, color, options, etc.
and I believe what is in prod for any given dealer.
If you befriend the right guy it's even fun, you sit down at the computer and specify different criteria and viola your questions are answered..no bs, just facts.
Always helps when the sales guy is a car guy, not just another salesperson looking for the next deal, there is a difference
