Default Seating Position Comparo Between Sport Seats and GT3 Buckets

Hi-

Does the GT3 bucket sit lower than the sport seat with all else being equal?

I really dislike the seating position in my GT3 with the sport seats, I am sitting too high up.

I believe so although I only had mine in the car for a few months and that was 16 years ago.

I will say that with the Tequipment (or equivalent roll bar) the sport seats get very crampy as you can't recline or move them far enough back so aside from sitting lower (I think), the buckets allow better positioning if you have or intend to get a roll bar.

It's been awhile...but yes, the Sports seats sit higher than the buckets...you get used to it though....and you get used to getting out of the bucket (well I did, I don't know if the SO ever did) to get out of the car

thank you folks - I spoke to a fellow who said he can barely see over the steering wheel in his carbon buckets - and he is 6 ft tall. I am around 6 ft tall and half of my gauges are cut off by the steering wheel because I am sitting too damn high. Need to find me some carbon buckets.

a little hard to believe a 6-foot guy can hardly see over the wheel in buckets, but he could have a short torso and long legs.

Yes, Euro GT3 seats are about 1 1/2" lower than "sport" seats (mount dependent of course). I typically use Euro seat for me and sport seat on pass side as my wife prefers it.
If you are really looking for real "carbon" buckets, CFRP shells, stay in touch.
I may sell a pair later this year.

Cheers

I've had a bunch of different seats including the OEM GT3 Euro seats but my favorite is the Recaro Profi Spa with the carbon kevlar shell. It sits about 1.5" lower than the Euro GT3 seat partly due to the 1" thick seat cushion which is shared with the Profi Hans seat. The only caveat on the Profi Spa is that you really need to use it with a QD steering wheel due to the high side bolster. It's a bitch to get in and out of but extremely comfortable when in it.

In the big scheme of things, the OEM Euro GT3 seats are probably one of the finest dual purpose seats out there and period correct for the car. I really loved mine.

For those with Euro Buckets. What mounts are you using?

I scored a set, and will probably install them this weekend to get a feel for seating position before explore other mounting options. I know some brackets exist out there that will basically bolt the seat to the floor but the fore/aft position is fixed.

I have the euro buckets with the factory sliders and Brey Krause mounts. I'm 6'-5" and I fit easily with a helmet on. I also have the 350mm wheel and it just barely cuts off 5% of the top of the tach, but you can still read everything easily.

I'm 6ft - these are great. The setup is perfect for me.

I highly recommend the Brey-Krause R-9079 side plates for the Euro GT3 seats to get the seat about 1" lower. I used to remove the pads for the track but now don't need to anymore. Having owned 2 996's one of my major complaints about the car his how high the seating position is with virtually all stock seating options.

@Nickshu
totally agree, I went ahead and put the Euro GT3 seats in, and I feel that my seating position did come down a bit as I feel that I have more headroom but it's negligible. I definitely need to get the Brey Krauss mounts eventually. Regardless, these seats are a 10x improvement, a must have for the 996 gt3.

The seat cushion/upholstery is just velcroed onto the bucket. Removing that will lower your seating position by ~2 inch.
