I had the full M&M “cup” catless exhaust with center exit muffler on my old 996 GT3. I loved it, loud, deep disorganized exhaust note that really set it apart from the later model GT3 cars. This set up made great power and torque coupled with an IPD plenum and 997 TB too.

^^^ if you skip to 1:48 mark of this video there is a brief outside clip (poor video quality but gives a good idea of the sound).

Akrapovič
The folks from Slovenia still build the finest quality full exhaust systems imho. Unfortunately, no 996 systems in production.

I'd love to find one of those mufflers on the used market, wow great setup!

Just picked up the 6gt3 from regular service and muffler bypass install. Took the 1hr longer road back home. Good Lord, it's insane! What a monster. Getting goosebumps just driving straight at 50mph. Entering Nirvana after 5k rpms. It burbles and crackles when getting off gas. And you can absolutely feel the 65lbs taken off the rear. Love it! Thanks everyone for your advice, videos, and suggestions!

I'll try but I'm not very good with recordings. There are some videos with the bypass in this thread already, both exterior and interior. Look them up. Also search "996 gt3 muffler bypass" on youtube.

Went for another drive. The bypass sound has become so addictive that I miss it after a day of not driving. I had a couple of bounces off the rev limit in 2nd gear as I enjoyed the sound so much that I forgot (or didn’t want) to upshift. Added few ignitions to Range 1 rendering the car worthless — practically only good for the junkyard now.

I was passing a car as I hit the rev-limit. Probably pierced the poor fellow’s ear drums.

This is getting into danger territory for the Boxster. I've picked the 6gt3 for the last three back-road runs in a row. The sound is insane when idling, cruising, or giving it the beans. Two of my friends commented: "It suits the car just right." Today a kid in a hot Honda followed me while recording with his phone. Later another one in a Golf. I occasionally gave them the beans on gas. They both honked and gave me the thumbs up when we split. Love spreading the joy...

There is some but it's bareable, for now. I don't do any highway or DD driving -- just back-roads for fun and the sound above 4k is so addictive that I rarely go under.

With Dundon, does it come with cats, or do you keep the OEM cats, or no cats? If the latter, would it pass emissions on a street car?

Dundon offers both a street car version with cats and race version without. Id imagine any exhaust system without catalytic converters wouldn’t pass emission testing.

Did you get (and the videos show) the street (with cats) or the race (no cats) system?
