Default Side panel stone chips?

Hey all,

Don't specifically have a GT3 but I do have a 2004 C2 with genuine MK2 996 GT3 wheels with the standard size:

Front: 8.5 ET40 with Michelin PS2 235 / 40 / 18
Rear: 11 ET 63 with Michelin PS2 295 / 35 / 18

For those with the same standard wheels on their GT3 with any track work or "spirited" canyon runs etc find that you get stone chips down the side of your cars??

Have been noticing quite a few appearing - the latest one was on the rear below the rear quarter window?? A few before that were in the door and the door handle?

I don't make a habit of driving close to anyone but it would seem odd if I got stone chips in the side from another car.

Car is currently on one of the C2 M030 (10mm lower) factory suspension but will eventually be upgrading to Bilstein PSS10 doubt that will make any difference in stone chipping though.

Later tequipment brochures for the C2 actually had an option for 8" front wheels and 11" rear but I was able to source 8.5" which is what I wanted anyway.

Not looking for advice on fixing chips - just if anyone has had similar experience of chips on the side and rear hips from the standard wheel/tyre setup?

Thanks!!

My previous 996 GT3 did have quite a few in this area and ran the standard wheels, but was told the previous owner did quite a few interstate trips on open Australian roads which are polluted with semi trucks. This area is a bit of a concern with all 911s but the 996 is not as susceptible to it as the 997 which has much wider hips.

Thanks Spiller, did 1,000kms around Victoria with a PFA group - awesome weekend!

I was a bit concerned with the amount of debris that got kicked up and damaged the paint in odd areas though. Was the first trip on these MK2 GT3 wheels.

Found some more stone chips on the headlights tonight as well which sucks but more expected than the sides and hips.

Bit easing to hear it's possibly just the design as the wheels sit almost flush to the front and rear guards.

Have to pay to play I guess!

Yes. Mine burned through my clearmask on the rockers in less than a year. Especially in front of the rear wheels.

Thanks Nickshu - my side sills/rocker covers are starting to get chipped as well. Not too concerned as they aren't difficult to repaint.

Have you gotten any near the rear quarter windows and below?

No I think that's more of an issue on the widebody cars.

Thanks, I wonder if it's an issue of height. I've got M030 but maybe coil overs will reduce the body height and reduce the amount of exposed tyre at the front?
