10 years of 996 GT3 ownership

I love my recent air-cooled addition, but if anything it makes me appreciate the GT3 more. GT3 feels like a rocket in comparison, although I will say one advantage of an air cooled car is that its limits are so much lower you can have some fun even if you are only going 45mph (whereas the limits of the gt3 are so high you almost have to be on a track or winding it out past 6k in second! to feel the same rush!).

Any thoughts on my inquiry above, either the OP or others with experience and in comparison with the 987.2 spyder? Sounds more like a companion, much like an and not an or. If the decision is hard the 987.2 spyder must be a great choice.

Can't compare to the 987.2 Spyder but had a GT4 for a while that I went back and forth with the GT3 with. Chassis was beautiful, fun to drive but engine didn't feel "special" like the Mezger does. Very much like my 993 now, it's a great companion and offers a different experience but I don't think I would call it a GT3 replacement.

Definitely an "And" car. 987.2 Spyder and 996 GT3 are both perhaps the least desirable generations of their respective model series making them the perfect pairing lol. Love my 996 GT3 but find myself wanting to mod it with 997 parts like the center exhaust and shifter. 987.2 Spyder feels slowish driving back to back with the 6GT3 and the roof is such a PITA compared to the 981 Spyder. Thought it would be cool to "assemble" the roof but for me the novelty quickly wore off and I find myself again yearning for the next generation's improvement of a simpler top.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE these cars but if money were no object...

I wish I had never sold my 911SC. 8 years and counting with the 6GT3. I am keeping the GT3 so I don't have to suffer the regrets later.

Just celebrated my 10 yr anniversary with mine. Picked it up in spring 2010 from Rizza Porsche in Orland Park, IL with 7500 miles on the clock; was apparently owned by a gentleman who drove it from Chicago to Wisconsin during the summers. Car was skittish at freeway speeds initially but once new tires and alignment were done it performed as expected. Been very fortunate to take advantage of the expertise here at Rennlist and talented mechanics at home. Car has never failed to amaze and entertain and instruct. Just under 25000 miles now and definitely a keeper.

Yeah, I've owned so many Porsches since 1988, flipping them like fried batter in a pan, but all that screeched to a halt when I bought the GT3.
I love the new ones, they are amazing, but the simplicity of the 996 GT3 is what keeps it in my stable.
