Default Preaching to the converted

No surprise, my GT3 replacement, a Corvette, is in the shop having some motor issues addressed. I took the GT3 out of storage. I had changed the oil and brake fluid in the early Spring just in case. I threw on some new front pads and some new Pirelli take offs, and headed to Watkins Glen for the ARPCA event. What a great car the GT3 is! I have not ever driven a car that was more engaging and rewarding to drive fast. There were a few faster cars...a 991.1 GT3RS, a 996 Cup car, a Camaro LT1 and a Corvette, but there will always be someone faster. I could hang with them through the turns and even catch them in the climbing Esses or in the turn 10 and 11 sequence, but I'd lose them on the straights. But, all in all, a great fun weekend driving a fantastic Porsche.

GT3 at the Glen is a pretty special experience in all the fast sweepers, but the new mega HP alternatives show their strength on a big power track like that. Glad you got to re-ignite the flame with the old girl.

Corvette going to be done for Mid Ohio?

I'm not holding my breath. It is in Ct at Callaway, and they have some serious work to do.

Don't replace the GT3.

Awesome, sounds like a great weekend. What an experience it would be to drive there.
It was at the Glen that I got a bit of the racing bug back in the '80's watching the Holbert/Bell Porsche 962's and Group 44 Jaguars.
Will never forget those sights and sounds!

Glad you got the GT3 out Chuck. I am sure the GT3 enjoyed itself hounding the other "fast cars".

Regards,

I re-bonded with it washing all of the WG bugs off. What a great ride on my favorite track. The climbing Esses are always thrilling. Speedo read 157 on the back straight. I think I had a little tailwind.

Not to spoil the thread, but how accurate is your dash speedometer?

Mine is ridiculous; fast by about 5 mph at 90 mph.

I think Porsche speedos are 5% high on purpose. I haven't had a chance to open my Traqmate data.

Just checked...150.39, top of 4th gear. I tried 5th a few times, but without regearing, 5th is a dog.

Assuming you were on a 305/645/18 Pirelli and assuming you were still in 4th it should be 147-148mph at the end of that straight.

I suspect at that speed, the diameter of the tires may expand a bit.

Mine regularly see's 165 on the back straight at WGI. That's from data, not speedo. You should be able to be right around 140 at the top of the esses before getting onto the back straight.

I wish I could drive my 6GT3, but I am banned by the Doctors right now. I have been relegated to the wife's 991.1 GT3 until next year, so my 6GT3 is going to have a long sleep before it see's those speed's again.

Looking forward to seeing you at Mid-O in a week.

I'm basically stock. No chip, re-gearing, intake or weight reduction. It still has cats.

See you on Saturday.
