Default LWFW & RS 4.0L clutch advantages ?

Hi, currently have the engine out getting the coolant pins welded, water pump, heat exchanger hoses etc all replaced. Been suggested to me to replace the flywheel with lightweight version and also the 4.0l clutch.

What are the benefits and what is peoples here experiences of this, do you recommend?

Here is some piccies of the engine, just because its lovely!!

Thanks!

I had mine done during coolant pipe welding as well. IMHO it greatly improves the driveability of the car. Easier to heal/toe, engine revs more freely - seems to suit the personality of the engine better if that makes sense. I went with the RS 4.0 LWFW, and my shop recommended the Sachs Stage "2.5" clutch (also did a LW crank pulley at same time). I have 30k miles on my clutch/LWFW setup without a single issue. Highly recommended.

Just did mine - in fact pretty much all of this.

The flywheel allows the car to rev insanely quick, the clutch feels basically the same as stock. Its a no lose, all win situation.

However - If you do the flywheel, you have to find the RS lightweight pulley as well to match.

I agree. Really, really improves the character and driving dynamics of the car in my opinion. I went with the 996 RS stuff. I feel there is literally no downside. It’s not even that noisy. Win-win, as said above.

The hardest part of this is probably going to be finding all of the parts.

I had piece by piece mine together calling everyone from Pelican, ECS, Evo, etc to get all of the parts here in an acceptable time period.

The RS Pulley was out of stock nationwide when I completed mine about 2 months ago with no backfill.

RS Flywheel is a blast to rev, definitely adds chatter but its a GT3 so no bother.

make your life easy.
Buy everything from Kevin @ Ultimate Motor Werks (typically a turbo car tuner, but knows his stuff regarding FW / PP compatibility)
kevin@ultimatemotorwerks.com
One call
One CC billing
Once box with everything necessary arrived 5 days later.

This is the front pulley that I used, grooved, aluminum, was already on my engine.

Suncoast will sell you a kit of the parts, pretty sure that you need to source the PP apart from their kit. If you have a high-hp car like a tuned TT then you need to be more thoughtful with the clamping forces, etc.

Just more chatter at idle but great for heel/toe on the track. Mike

Great improvement, definitely something to consider when your engine's out or clutch up for replacement.

I got the full kit from Suncoast. EVOM makes a LW pulley, which when I researched, seemed like a good choice.

Cheers

chnage the trany mount to a Tarret while your in there and add some semi solid motor mounts, she will shift like a hot knife thru butter.
cup cable and shifter are also sweet if you can find some....da slippery slope

Bumping an old thread..
I'm also doing an engine out and have a few questions, here's my list of stuff to replace as of rn. Do you guys think the car need anything else? For reference, it's 100% stock and is close to 50k miles. My goal is to keep it as reliable/bulletproof as possible.

Pin coolant lines
Spark plugs
Coil packs
Rear main seal if leaky
Clutch/lwfw (4.0 kit)
Underdrive pulley to support ^ (is there a difference between RSS #608 and EVOMS)
tarret Engine mount
tarret Transmission mount
Replacing fluids
Water pump

Am excited to get this done, looking forwards to tracking the car!

If you are about to start tracking a 15yo car like the GT3, I would also suggest the following:

Wheel bearings - just replace all 4
Overhaul the CV joints
