Oil dipstick failures

As stated above, the marking says GT3/Cup on the end of the dipstick.
Never heard of a failure before.

Looking @ the above, I assume that the correct oil level is between the 13" bobble (full) and the 14.5" bobble (low).....
Even as per the GT3 service / instruction book (hot oil / level surface / engine idling etc), I've never been able to see the oil level via the dipstick - even laying it on a clean paper towel.
According to the electronic display, oil is @ max, but the dipstick reading is below the middle bobble (14.5" mark).
I'll go & measure the dipstick in the morning to verify its the same length as above........
Update... My dipstick length as per StephenB's above, give or take 1/4" .

When I measure my oil level (fully warned up, level surface, etc), the dipstick will indicate between the middle BB and the end BB (right at the 15" mark on the tape measure above) while the electronic gauge shows the oil full.

Approx. 1.0 litre of oil between the upper & middle indicators of the dipstick, so I think you would have to add at least an additional litre between the middle and lower indicator marks. That's assuming the oil tank is uniform......

Holy thread resurrection Batman !!
I’ve recently had a 2009 997 Cup engine installed in my Mk 1 996 GT3. During the handover I noted a dipstick in the frunk, the oily end inside a latex glove secured with a zip tie.
Me : Any reason the dipstick’s in the frunk, and NOT in the engine ?
Tech guy : The dipstick is for checking the oil only, it must NOT be left in the engine at any other time.
I found the Porsche technical PDF for the 997 Cup (it’s not the Australian version or the 2011 version) but one of them specifically states that the dipstick should NOT be left in the motor. No doubt they had a failure, either the whole flexi section parting company from the handle, or the nipples indicating the level marks on the flexi section, coming adrift and causing havoc internally.
You’ve been warned ...
