Oil dipstick failures
I got my GT3 back from my race shop with the dipstick wrapped in a towel in the cabin!
Apparently there have been metal dipstick failures with bits falling off and causing major issues.
I was told not to worry, the dipstick doesn't need to be there, it has no impact on performance, and no risk of oil backing out.
Just FYI, I haven't seen this issue reported before.

That sounds way better than "Oh crap! We forgot to put the dipstick back in!" I'm skeptical. lol

My shop used to support a few 996 Cups and I think those engines don't have the dipstick because of the potential for some sort of failure.
Regardless, my shop recommended removing the dip stick from my 6GT3 as a precaution; mine's in a plastic bag in the boot.
As Andy pointed out the electronic read out is much easier to access since the dip stick is difficult to read with clean oil.
One trick with clean oil is to lay the dipstick on a paper towel and note where the oil wicks onto the paper - I still prefer the electronic instrument.

^^^ 996 Cup has the dipstick, it’s exactly the same as the street car and just as impossible to read. No electronic level on the cup car as far as I know.
what parts are falling off the dipstick? Never heard of the issue
