Hey all,

I'm switching to SRF and doing a full brake rebuild before the season starts. Is the stainless piston setup from RB only worth doing if the pucks on the stock pistons are broken? Anyone using the RB kit that can chime in with a real world performance/experience?

If I just do the seals with the stock pistons, any specific seals I should go with? Any to avoid?

I did a full Racing Brake upgrade and posted about it here. It's a perfect fit and works. I haven't had a lot of track time with the new setup, but - so far, so good. You could do just the seals, but if you are removing them to rebuild them, might as well upgrade. You can get everything from RacingBrake. It all fits perfect and it's an easy install.

Note, in my prior post, the inner seals were fine, so if you don't have any reason to suspect a bad seal, I would guess they are OK. I upgraded because all my pucks were coming loose.

Thanks for the info. I've read the thread and was hoping to get some feedback on how the pistons felt going from stock to the stainless steel. Or if anyone had issues with heat for the non-blue seals.

 

The outer seals will rip regardless of color is you track your car. Mine were torn for years without any performance implications before I eventually did a caliper re-build. The inner seals (like a small rubber band) showed minimal signs of wear over the multiple years of usage. Since I was already in there I did replace the seals.

 

Do you guys have the factory part numbers for the front and rear pucks?
I'm re-doing mine and a couple of them were cracked. Looking to replace with what was there as they worked perfectly for 14 years.
Dealer is no help. Thanks in advance.

 

The pucks are not sold separately, only as part of the Porsche Motorsport rebuild kit which included the pistons, pucks, and inner seals. The kit is about $500 per caliper, dust seals are not included but can buy those from the dealer.

 

I sent all of my extra pucks out to the GT3 crowd. Perhaps someone has what you need.

If the pucks are crapping out, might be time for the RB upgrade?

what size puck do you need. ? Ive used a few/ have a few. I have puck paranoia / I was purchaser. I have the sickness.

Wow, those pucks are unobtainable! Pucks are 3 sizes.

 

Porsche will not sell pucks separate. Need to purchase the caliper.

Well, I guess if I read between the lines, the stock pistons with pucks are in high demand. I guess I'll just replace seals and not get the stainless pistons. lol
