Smile GT3 - First snow usage report

We got ~6" of new snow over the weekend. I got my first chance to experience the GT3 in the snow - pretty good with the exception of the ride height - the splitter lip kept catching high points of snow. The car is definitely usable in snow though. (BTW: I did install the rims/tire combo recomended in the maual for snow - I suspect that the car would be unusable otherwise.)

r u nuts?
The GT3 has no undercoating. So be prepared to have your car turn into a rust box if you seriously are using it in winter.

NUTS is having a depreciating asset sit in a garage7 months out of the year. 18 months from now, the GT3 will be yesterday's news. As Alwin Springer said to me a couple years ago, "They don't make em slower over time." The car IS galvanized. The undercoating you mention is purely for impact resistance (rocks) AND sound deadening.

I agree with Watt. It is great to see that you are driving the car. I do not have a GT3 but I plan on slapping some snow tires on my 993 when the time comes. I currently live in South Carolina so snow is not too much of an issue. Keep it up.

Exactly! And, as I said before, unless there is damage to the body, in the form of a cut or a puncture, there should be no rust.

rockit,
it's been vicious out here; we actually had to ... sob.... close the windows the other night it was so cold!!!!! luckily we were catching rays again by weekend.

no chains required but you gotta park the Cups!!! and my GT3 WINTER truck is so far off the ground, an entire 1/2 inch higher than the GT2, I'm hitting a lot fewer rocks.

Bravo! Not everyday you find a Porsche owner who really uses their car! I am sure a GT3 would be a hoot in the snow

RR, not true. I have to drive my 993 a lot in wet environment. No rust. It's galvanized.

This is a joke, right?

I personally think it is rediculous to try to use the GT3 in the snow. So many other cars are better suited to the task. What's the point?

Your thinking is that I should buy a Hummer because it is good in the snow. Further, you obviously haven't driven a GT3 in the snow...it IS quite good (with snows - Dunlop Winter M2's). Again, to me the car is designed to be used, not fawned over.

I will take a picture and post it today since the very notion of using the car in the snow is so controversial. BTW: Do you think its ridiculous to use the car in the rain - it does have a greater tendency to come unhooked in the wet, you know...

Lets see some photos!!! I want to see a picture of that bad boy all covered with salt and snow.

I broke my car in properly and got the whole weather thing out of the way early... it rained on me the whole 112 miles home from the dealership when I first took delivery.

pat,

this is America, park your f.g car in the garage, wax the wheels and just stare at it and show it to your friends!!! it is NOT to be driven, exercised or otherwise used as designed. you're scaring the fruits in the audience!!!!!

vast fixed wing conspiracy,

stick to your tirades on PCCB.

i have driven 356's and 911's in the snow. they have outstanding traction with the weight over the drive wheels. what did Porsche design, a fair weather car for wimps? the cars have competed in winter alpine rallys for years. Please get it out of your system:
